ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5S ups performance ante without upping cost substantially

Just ignore the recycled design

Apparently, ASUS isn’t done recycling 2015’s ZenFone design language, what with the Taiwanese manufacturer introducing yet another smartphone touting the ZenFone 2 aesthetic.

Consider hearing us out, though, as the new ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5S brings more power and multitasking chops compared to its predecessor without upping the cost too much.

Last year’s 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 Laser sold for P7,995 ($170) in the Philippines; the refresh is priced at P8,995 ($195), which is tough to beat when you consider the alternatives. Shelling out extra for the ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5S nets you a decent midrange processor in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and a rather generous 3GB of RAM.

The 5.5-inch 720p display, 13- and 5-megapixel main and secondary cameras, and 3,000mAh cell, much like everything else, are carry-overs from the departing model. As with all previous Laser phones, the ZenFone 2 Laser 5.5S has a laser autofocus sensor beside the rear camera for speedy focusing up to a certain point.

Available in gold, red, silver, white, and black, the phone is said to be coming soon in stores across the Philippines. If you can ignore the recycled design, it might be worth a look.
