Let’s face it: There’s nothing more frightening than your phone dying on you in the middle of the day. And while smartphones continue to get better, battery life hasn’t seen a significant boost in like, forever.
Until that happens, power banks are must-haves. These portable smartphone battery packs come in all shapes and sizes, some are built into cases, and I even have one built into my wallet.
Unfortunately, none of these solutions are very elegant. If you’re like me, you probably walk around clutching both a phone and power pack with a cable dangling out.
As awkward as this looks, I prefer this to battery cases as I’m not a fan of the extra bulk that usually comes with it. Don’t even get me started about how ugly the iPhone battery case looks.
That’s why I was pretty excited when I came across the BondE SNAP Charge battery system at the Global Source Consumer Electronics Show in Hong Kong last week.
The case is reminiscent of Apple’s own silicon cases in both look and feel — except for the BondE logo at the back, which is how these modular, wireless power packs magnetically latch on.
No wires, no mess. The SNAP Charge has 2000mAh of power, good enough for almost a full charge. The company promises you can get to 60 percent in 30 minutes.
The awesome part is that they’re stackable.
And if you and your friend both have power packs. You can charge one SNAP Charge using the other just by snapping them together.
One quick swipe on the power pack changes the direction of the charge. So you can choose which power pack is master and which is slave.
And it snaps on to a wireless charging pad that can top up your phone and the power pack at the same time.
The BondE SNAP charging system launched in China this week and retails for about US$ 89.
It comes in five colors: red, pink, yellow, teal, and blue and is available for the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, and 8 (and their respective Plus models). There are supposedly models for the Galaxy S and Note line, as well.
