The follow-up to OPPO’s most successful smartphone this year has arrived, and it showed up in the most unexpected way.
Instead of being revealed through a special keynote, the R11 simply appeared on OPPO’s official online store from China. It’s going to available beginning June 10, and it’ll come in three colors: black, gold, and rose gold.
Its most prominent feature is the dual-camera setup at the back — similar in design and function to Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus. The 20- and 16-megapixel cameras work together to enable optical zooming of up to 2X. And if you’re into selfies, you’ll be glad to know there’s a high-resolution 20-megapixel in front, as well.
Keeping things snappy is Qualcomm’s newly launched Snapdragon 660 processor inside. It’s an incredibly efficient SoC (System on Chip) with greater focus on battery endurance and overall speed. Matched with the R11’s 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage, we can call this a truly modern midranger.
Finally, let’s talk about the screen: It’s 5.5 inches in size and with a AMOLED panel, just like the R9s that came before it. The only weakness we see is the smallish battery; its 2900mAh capacity isn’t reassuring for the size of the R11. On the bright side, Android Nougat 7.1 is shipping with the phone, so you at least have the latest build.
This being an unexpectedly early announcement, pricing isn’t final yet. We’ll update this space as soon as we find out the exact numbers.
