Earlier today, Sony revealed the pricing and availability for the Xperia XZ1 in the Philippines. While that’s all well and good, one phone didn’t get similar treatment, and that’s the smaller 4.6-inch version of the Xperia XZ1.
The Xperia XZ1 Compact, which was also launched during IFA 2017 a couple of weeks ago, wasn’t given a launch date for the Philippine market. As it turns out, Sony Philippines has no plans of even shipping the phone to this part of the world anytime soon.
Pam Uy, Marketing Officer of Sony Mobile Philippines, says the team is still “studying the market feasibility” for bringing in the XZ1 Compact.
For now, Filipinos will have to settle for only two options from the new batch of Xperias: the XZ1 itself and the XA1 plus. Uy says the two smartphones they’re launching are more “tailor-fit to the needs of the Philippine market.”
This could be seen as a blow to Android fans looking for a high-end smartphone below five inches in screen size. One of our own writers chose to purchase Sony’s two-year-old Xperia Z5 Compact despite its age simply because it was smaller and faster than today’s midrange phones.
