Spider-Man Drive: A nice-to-have for webheads

Is this the ultimate hard drive for Spidey fans?

Spider-Man enthusiasts have another item to add to their collection. The Seagate Spider-Man Special Edition Firecuda External Hard Drive (Spider-Man Drive for brevity) is one of the few pop-culture licensed products that are actually useful. It’s not just a collector’s item to display on shelves, but one you can benefit from.

For fans of the entire Spider-Verse, this particular collaboration even comes in three variants: Spider-Man featuring the original, classic Spidey, Miles Morales featuring, well, Miles, and Ghost-Spider featuring Gwen Stacy.

Each comes with their own unique look and feel. But unlike their comic book counterparts, these hard drives have the exact same features — the same power set, if you will.

On paper, that’s 2TB of storage capacity, works with PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox, uses USB 3.2 Gen 1, and has RGB. Yay. Something to keep in mind, by default, it’s in the exFAT format system. That makes sure it’s compatible across the devices mentioned. If you ever have to reformat for whatever reason, make sure to keep it on exFAT.

The Classic Suit

Nothing beats the classic, and that is true for yours truly. Especially when it comes to Spider-Man suits. Something about the webbed-red-and-blue is just undeniably Spider-Man and that’s what you get with the Spider-Man Drive.

Front and center is the hero himself.

There’s also a Firecuda and Seagate branding but they’re almost unnoticeable.

Here’s a closer look at the Seagate branding.

On the bottom edge, the name of the drive is written.

Spider-Man. With a hyphen. As it should always be written.

Flip the thing to show the dominant blue with a Spider-Man logo.

Fun-fact: That’s the original back logo from the first comic book run. Many fans prefer it to the one in the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield films. That’s because the back logos in the films look sharper and edgier, unlike the original which gives off “friendly neighborhood” Spidey vibes.

Bonus for size comparison, next to an iPhone 11 Pro.

We forgot to take snaps but the packaging also comes with some Spidey and Seagate stickers.

Overall, it’s a great look. Spidey is in a stylish pose and the hard drive itself embodies the classic suit. Peter Parker stans should look to grab this one.

Fast but no super speed

Probably unintentional, but fun to highlight is that the Spider-Man drive still uses USB 3.2 Gen connectors. That means the file transfer speeds, while fast enough, aren’t exactly blazing fast. Which is technically fine. Super speed, after all, isn’t part of Spidey’s power set.

But how fast is it exactly? It takes about 30-40 minutes to move around 35GB of files. Decent. But not exactly efficient. For instance, we’ve been able to transfer nearly the same amount of files in a third of the time from a memory card connected to a dongle that supports faster file transfers.

That means this isn’t exactly built for a truly speedy on-the-go workflow. If you’re taking this outside, make sure to keep the file transfers to 10GB and below so you can stay agile like Spider-Man.

RGB for fun?

No thematic connection again, but hey, some people really think RGB is cool. This one’s generally easy to set-up. Upon plugging in the Spider-Man Drive, you’ll gain access to its contents. There you’ll find a Toolkit installer both for Windows and Mac. Although, for Mac, you’ll need to install another driver to make it work.

Everything is pretty straightforward no matter which operating system you’re working with. I had zero trouble hooking it up to Windows. Although, MacOS Ventura is a little challenging as Privacy and Security dialog box has changed. As of writing, we’re still trying to figure out the right permissions so we can install the required driver to make RGB work with Mac.

It’s a fun and cool addition and should fit most desk aesthetics. By default, the LED light is set to white. But it’ll appear bluish on the Spider-Man Drive because of the blue back panel.

Is the Spider-Man Drive your GadgetMatch?

Officially licensed products are usually nothing more than money-grabs. Take a pop-culture icon, slap a kick-ass art on your product, and voila: cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching. Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. However, it would be nice if a little more thought is put into the collaboration.

It would have been nice to keep things in theme by adding more Spidey-related things to the final product. I’m no expert but wouldn’t it have been more fun if the cable was longer and looked more like Spidey’s webs? Or perhaps add or make available some protective cases that feature Spidey’s other suits. I don’t think that’s too much to ask, especially if you’re paying extra for a product that essentially already exists.

At its core, the Spider-Man Drive is just a pricier re-skin of the generally okay Firecuda Gaming External Hard Drive. It’s not bad, but it’s not amazing nor superior.

That said, Spider-Man fans (like this writer), will likely think this piece of tech is still pretty darn cool. Because it is. And sometimes, that’s really all it takes.

UGREEN has expanded its MagFlow lineup with three new wireless charging products. The range now covers portable power, desktop charging, and travel.

All three support Qi2 25W charging. UGREEN also focuses on thermal management to keep charging cooler and more consistent.

A cooler power bank

The highlight is the UGREEN MagFlow Pro Magnetic Power Bank 10000mAh 25W. UGREEN calls it the world’s first liquid-cooled Qi2 25W magnetic power bank.

It uses UGREEN’s CryoPulse technology. A micro-pump circulates coolant around key components to draw away heat. A Cyber Window also lets users see the cooling process in real time.

UGREEN says the system can keep peak temperatures up to 18°F below the industry benchmark. The power bank also uses Dymondcell 2.0 high-density ATL cells.

A built-in smart display shows charging power, battery level, cycle count, and cooling status. UGREEN says the power bank can charge an iPhone 17 Pro Max to 50 percent in 40 minutes.

Charging three devices at once

The UGREEN MagFlow Pro 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand 25W targets desktop setups. It can charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time.

The stand uses CryoPulse TEC active cooling and an ultra-quiet 15dB fan. Its thermoelectric cooling system draws heat away from the charging surface.

UGREEN says the center of the charging surface can reach temperatures as low as 51.8°F. It can also charge an iPhone 17 Pro Max to 50 percent in 26 minutes under its internal testing conditions.

Acer has announced a full lineup of monitors for high-powered gaming and content creation, headlined by the first FHD 1000Hz gaming monitor Predator XB253Q U1.

This offering leads various releases across the Predator, Acer Nitro, and Acer ProDesigner portfolios.

The Predator XB253Q U1 monitor is a premium gaming display designed for top-tier responsiveness for fast-paced titles and esports competitions.
