Assassin’s Creed remakes are coming, Ubisoft confirms
In addition to Shadows and Hexe
Ubisoft owes a lot of its success today to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Now far removed from the early entries that earned the franchise its success, the series is getting a healthy dose of nostalgia going forward. Ubisoft has officially announced that more remakes of the popular franchise are coming in the future.
In an interview with CEO Yves Guillemot on the company’s website, Ubisoft announced that it is tapping into the past of the franchise for its future. “Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them,” Guillemot said.
The company has not said which games are getting remakes, though. Over the years, the franchise has dabbled with remasters; most notably, Ubisoft launched an Ezio collection that bundles all the games featuring the Italian assassin.
Remakes sound like a big project for Ubisoft. Instead of simply offering graphics upgrades, there is a big chance that a remake will expand the worlds of the past. “There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich,” he continues.
Besides remakes, the franchise is preparing for new eras and playstyles it hasn’t seen yet. For example, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take the series to feudal Japan for the first time ever. Assassin’s Creed Hexe, a currently unscheduled release, will take the series to the witch trials during the Holy Roman Empire.
