Samsung might launch the Galaxy S9 in February
It’s that time of the year again: Everyone’s guessing what next year will bring to the world of flagships.
Reports predict that you might not have to wait long for news from one of the world’s biggest phone makers, Samsung.
Usually, the Korean brand reveals their flagship phones for the year during an exclusive event in March. They then release them for retail in April.
Previous rumors said that next year’s Galaxy S9 might officially appear at the CES event in January. However, new reports push this back to late February with a release date in March. Despite moving the rumored launch forward, the new date is still earlier than the usual March timeline.
This also hints that Samsung is pushing for an iPhone X contender as soon as possible. Despite being the most expensive Apple phone to date, the iPhone X has been getting positive reviews, much to Samsung’s dismay. Given the reception, it’s natural that Samsung wants to compete as early as possible.
The Galaxy S9 is expected to offer minor updates to the S8, rather than overhauling its entire design. This follows Samsung’s usual pattern of launching unique designs with every even-numbered S phone and updating them with odd-numbered ones.
Regardless, the Galaxy S9 may use the latest Snapdragon 845 processor chip, which launched only earlier this month. The expected upgrade will, at the very least, put the S9 on 2018 phone wish lists.
Samsung has also recently patented some tech they’ve been developing behind the scenes including an under-screen fingerprint sensor and fully-curved display. Only time will tell if these features will have a cameo in the coming months.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 might be the most popular camera in recent history. The tiny action camera constantly sells out, thanks to creators and would-be vloggers. Because of the current generation’s popularity, everyone is looking forward to the next-generation Osmo Pocket 4. Though it’s still unannounced, the new camera has suddenly made a surprising appearance out in the wild.
The leak shockingly comes from an authorized DJI retailer in Kuala Lumpur. Supposedly, a customer entered the store with what they claimed was an Osmo Pocket 4. The store, DronesKaki, even shot a now-deleted video of the unannounced camera, rescued by New Camera.
Based solely on the short video, the Osmo Pocket 4 looks and feels very familiar to those who’ve already used the Pocket 3. The three-axis gimbal system still keeps shots in place for taking videos while on the move. The 2-inch rotating screen looks identical to the current one, especially because of intuitive settings and controls.
However, the biggest standout is the built-in LED light sitting atop the camera. Despite how convenient and easy to use it is, the Pocket 3 doesn’t exactly shine in low-light conditions, prompting users to always bring an external flash. If the leak is true, the Osmo Pocket 4 cures this issue to some extent. (Built-in flashes aren’t usually standout solutions, but they can work in a pinch.)
Still, take the leak with a grain of salt. Though the store could have deleted the video because of a request from DJI, they could have also deleted it because it’s not the Osmo Pocket 4. At this point, we won’t know, but current rumors speculate that the camera is launching soon.

Recently, Apple released a very interesting invite for an unexpected event on March 4. It was interesting because of its unconventional timing and the recent rumor of a new entry-level MacBook. Naturally, there’s a lot of hype heading into March.
Apropos the brand’s usual marketing strategies, Nothing has released an invite of its own, confirming the launch of the launch of the Phone (4a) on March 5, a day after Apple’s event.
Of course, we’ve known about the Phone (4a) for a while now, thanks to Carl Pei’s own words last month. The more interesting bit is the invite itself.
Rather than bringing out its usual fashion-oriented aesthetics, Nothing just used Apple’s invite and literally spray-painted “Nothing” and “5 March” in neon pink letters.
It’s definitely an unconventional way to hype an event. Then again, everyone’s already excited for Apple, anyway. So it’s a case of “work smarter, not harder,” albeit straddling the fine line of ethical considerations.
