OnePlus 6 launch set for May 16 in London

The wait will soon be over

We’ve been overwhelmed by one smartphone flagship launch after another since the start of this year, and it doesn’t seem like it’s stopping anytime soon. OnePlus — the bearer of flagship killers — is going to launch its next product, the OnePlus 6, on May 16 in London, England.

It’s been in the rumor mill for several weeks already. The OnePlus 6 with its notched display and now-water-resistant body was subjected to several leaks showcasing its entire design and range of colors.

Fortunately, we’re sure it’s going to carry the best-possible hardware. Not only has OnePlus itself confirmed the primary specifications, but it’s tradition for the brand’s smartphones to essentially make competing premium handsets look bad in terms of performance.

If you’re curious enough to see the device firsthand (and happen to live in England), you — yes, you — can buy tickets to watch the event live on May 16. Ticket availability seems to be out of stock as of writing, but there’s a “Notify me” on the site, hinting at more spots being made. The early bird price is US$ 21, while the original tag is US$ 41.

The event will transpire in Copper Box Arena, London and OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei will be there along with “some of the biggest names in tech” according to the invite. The price of admission seems to carry great value, because the goody bag will be worth more than the ticket’s price and there are additional giveaways you may join.

England, Wales start banning Meta Glasses

The smart glasses are now banned in courtrooms.

Published

on

Earlier this year, New York became the first state to issue a blanket ban against smart glasses in courtrooms. The new regulation marks one of the first public spaces to prevent the contentious devices. Now, England and Wales are following suit in their courtrooms by banning Meta glasses inside.

As reported by The Guardian, courtrooms in both countries will confiscate Meta Glasses from those taking them into the building. Owners can retrieve them again upon exit.

Like the decision in New York, the English and Welsh bans are simple enough to follow. As it is everywhere, it’s forbidden to record video inside courtrooms in England and Wales. Because Meta Glasses have cameras (and are primarily used for their video capturing capabilities), they fall under prohibited items.

Notably, smartphones are not included on this list, despite having sizable cameras themselves. Although, to be fair, it’s much more difficult to discreetly record video using a smartphone. Smart glasses pride themselves with the ability to take videos seamlessly.

Meta Glasses are having such a moment today. Though some users, especially creators, are excited for them, a significant chunk of the population is concerned over their ability to take videos without subjects knowing they’re being recorded. Some users have even found ways to disable the built-in LED indicators which should, in theory, warn the public that the glasses are recording. It’s since turned into a privacy nightmare.
