Huawei P9, P9 Plus, and Mate 8 start getting EMUI 8.0 with Android Oreo

Huawei P9 or P9 Plus owners have been disappointed about the early report of their phone getting kicked out of the Oreo update program due to “hardware capacity” or whatever that means. Here’s an update: The Huawei P9 phones are actually receiving updated in China right now.

Huawei is keeping their promise to update existing devices to the latest Android version they have. Since Huawei is one of the Chinese manufacturers that heavily skins Android, the update comes a bit late. The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus are the latest to receive EMUI 8.0 that’s based on Android Oreo.

It’s not only the Huawei P9 phones that are getting the update, but also the Huawei Mate 8 which was announced back in 2015.

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor are getting on the Oreo train, as well. True to their words, the following Honor phones are now receiving updated to EMUI 8.0 with Android Oreo:

Honor 8
Honor V8
Honor Note 8
Honor Play 6X

The EMUI 8.0 update for these devices, including Huawei’s, are currently rolling out in China and it’s being delivered in batches. More phones in and outside China should get their promised update in the coming weeks. Just keep your Update Settings to Auto so your phone will automatically notify you when something is available for download.
