High-tech gardening tools for your modern green thumb needs

Get your greens growing!

Published

on

Growing up, gardening with my mom was always a fun activity. I grew up and (sort of) inherited this green thumb, as evidenced by a tiny succulent garden we own and tend to.

I remember spending afternoons outdoors digging around in the dirt, watering plants, and patiently waiting for seedlings to grow. Gardening these days though is a lot fancier than it was during those years back. I looked at tools and apps to get your greens growing and girl, there are a lot of high-tech, modern stuff out there to get your garden going. I’ve rounded up a few that will help you get to your gardening goals:

An app to identify flora

I discovered that apps like this existed from my mom. She’d walk around unfamiliar gardens or plant stores, take a photo, and identify the particular plant she wanted for her own garden. Picture This – Plant Identifier not only gives you info on each plant, it also connects you to a growing community of plant-lovers worldwide.

Download for iOS or Android.

Know what to do with your plants with this handy guide

Gardening Reference Guide gives you info on each plant, their background, what they need, and how they’ll thrive. This cheat sheet in-app form ensures you give your greens all the TLC they need.

Unfortunately, it’s only available on iOS. Download it here.

Organize your garden with some taps on your phone

Plot your whole garden — the different areas, all the types of plants, details on growth, and even progress photos — in one app. Gardenize is a space that allows you to follow every detail of your plant progress. You can even share your progress and follow other garden friends on this app for more green thumb inspiration!

Download for iOS or Android.

Track sunlight for the happiest, healthiest plants

We all know that most plants need sun to thrive, but did you know that different plants also have different lighting needs? Apps like these allow you to track sunlight so that all your plants get just the right amount.

Download Sun Seeker for iOS or Sun Surveyor for Android.

Make sure you water properly

If you keep forgetting to water your plants, this one’s for you. Happy Plant gamifies watering notifications and ensures your green babies aren’t thirsty!

Download for iOS here. For Android users, check out Waterbot (download here) or Plant Care Reminder (download here).

When in doubt, track your plant progress

This Xiaomi 4-in-1 Plant Flower Care Smart Monitor is pretty easy to use: Just stick it in your flower pot, connect to your phone, and you get info on sunlight, temperature, moisture, and soil fertility. (Get it here.)

The Parrot Flower Power Smart Plant Sensor also works the same way and measures your plant’s health in real time. (Get it here.)

If you want something even more intrusive, the Xiaomi Ropot is literally a pot with built-in Bluetooth that allows you to track your plant’s statistics. (Get it here.)

Take it a step further with self-watering devices

If monitoring isn’t enough for you, don’t fret. This device takes it a step further by even watering your plants when need be. Check out the AquaMose Smart Watering System on Kickstarter here.

The Parrot Pot is also a smart pot that waters your plant for up to a month. Read more about it here.

Go all out with eco-friendly gardening

And if going green full on is your thing, you might want to consider using Alphapot planters which are 100 percent environment-friendly. Check out the Kickstarter here.

Go to the next level with indoor gardening

Plants can also be grown indoors these days — all thanks to grow lamps that can simulate much-needed light. There are many on sale at pretty reasonable prices such as this LED Grow Lamp. Find it here

If you want to go all in with indoor gardening, pots like the Flora Intelligent 4 in 1 Flower Pot not only monitors your plant, it waters and provides needed light, too. All that’s left for you to do, basically, is watch it grow. Get it here.

Even IKEA sells Cultivation Sets that allow you to grow fresh herbs and greens indoors all year round. You can check them out here.

For those who want an even more fuss-free experience, Click and Grow is a ready-to-go planter that simplifies the whole process. Learn more here.

Enjoy your planting!

How the HUAWEI Active Rings run inspired my next streak

One active morning turned into a streak I wanted to keep!

There are days when running feels like a routine and there are mornings when it feels like a gift.

The HUAWEI Active Rings Fun Run landed perfectly on one of those good mornings. I woke up before the sun, optimistically laced my shoes, and took my place at the SM Mall of Asia Complex, where a thousand runners gathered with the same intention.

Everyone wanted to move with purpose and enjoy a moment that centered on fitness and a little glow from our smartwatches.

Finding my rhythm with my Active Rings

HUAWEI partnered with RUNRIO and a full roster of lifestyle staples like GCash, Shopee, Nature’s Spring, and URC. It created a space that felt alive even before anyone started running.

There were giant inflatables, interactive photo walls, and booths with snacks and hydration that framed the Race Village.

When the run began, the energy pushed me forward. The seaside breeze reminded me why I loved running outside. HUAWEI designed this event for their community of users and I felt that intention with every step.

It felt easy to check my stats and stay on pace because the watch tracked everything that mattered without distracting me.

I was inspired when seasoned runners passed me by, whereas some of them would later claim the top spots. The runners around me boosted me with energy that I wanted to match. They were competitive in a way that felt inspiring.

The little moments that made the morning sweeter

After crossing the finish line, I wandered around the Race Village again. I watched runners take photos with their medals and chat with friends they made during the route.

The GCash Watch Pay booth became unexpectedly helpful for a lot of participants. It let everyone bind their GCash account to their HUAWEI smartwatch.

It made sense for runners who preferred to go cashless and travel light. Shopee was also present and reminded everyone how modern life blends with fitness.

Every corner of the event touched a part of our daily routines. It showed how technology can help simplify healthy habits.

Keeping the streak alive with Light Up Your Active Rings

The fun run wrapped up the physical celebration but HUAWEI kept the momentum alive through the Light Up Your Active Rings Online Challenge. It runs from November 8 to 30 inside the HUAWEI Health App.

Participants only need to burn 1500 kcal within the challenge period to unlock the exclusive Manila Medal, a new badge inside the app that feels like a digital pat on the back.

Sharing the medal on TikTok with the hashtags #LightUpYourActiveRingsPH and #EnjoyYourMoment also enters participants into a chance to win a HUAWEI Watch GT 6.

HUAWEI will announce the winner on December 15. It feels like an invitation to stay active long after the race banners are packed away.

The challenge is simple and the message is clear: movement matters even when it feels small. Running, walking, cycling, or making your day a little more intentional can change the way you show up for yourself.

A community that runs with you

That morning reminded me that fitness does not need to feel lonely. The run united beginners, athletes, and curious participants who wanted to experience something new.

It gave us a morning filled with movement and reminded us that wearable technology can help us stay accountable in a way that feels supportive.

HUAWEI continues to build a fitness community that encourages healthier habits and celebrates every active streak. The Active Rings Fun Run made that mission feel real on the ground. Meanwhile, the Light Up Your Active Rings challenge brings it online for anyone who wants to keep going.

I left the MOA Complex with tired legs and a full heart. My Active Rings glowed with pride and I promised myself that this would not be the last time I ran for the kind of joy that morning gave me.

Takashi Murakami and CASETiFY’s new collab is in full bloom

The third chapter of the Murakami collection is here!

There’s something about Takashi Murakami’s art that feels like a shot of pure happiness.

Those smiling flowers — bright and a little mischievous — have appeared everywhere, from gallery walls to fashion collabs. And now, they’re blooming once again through CASETiFY’s latest collection.

Called FLOWERS BLOOM, this third chapter of the ongoing TAKASHI MURAKAMI x CASETiFY collaboration brings the artist’s most recognizable motif into a fresh lineup of tech accessories and travel gear.

The collection includes the FLOWERS Ripple Phone Case, which arrives through a surprise blind box (yes, you’ll have to unbox it to see which design you get).

It also comes with the FLOWERS Carry-On Suitcase that takes CASETiFY’s signature ripple texture and turns it into a piece of art.

There’s also a rainbow camera ring, gold-accented cases, and collectible charms and danglers that look as cheerful as they sound.

Murakami’s FLOWERS motif has long represented his “Superflat” style, melding traditional Japanese art with pop culture in a way that feels both nostalgic and new.

For collectors, the blind box adds a sense of thrill, with ultra-rare designs like the shimmering FLOWERS 18K Gold Case waiting to be discovered.

Meanwhile, the carry-on luggage and wireless chargers make the motif part of your daily rhythm.

The new lineup feels like a love letter to Murakami’s world, a reminder that joy can be part of your everyday life. It’s bright, bold, and unapologetically happy. And in a world that often feels gray, these blooms are exactly what we need.
