On-device AI, foldables are future of smart devices: HONOR
Foldables about to go mainstream, HONOR says

HONOR had the opportunity to discuss the future of smart devices at the Fortune Global Forum 2023 in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, where the Shenzhen-based brand pointed out that foldables are on the cusp of going mainstream.
Citing research from Counterpoint, HONOR bared that nearly two-thirds (64%) of high-end smartphone users in China are willing to switch to a foldable device, with the latter’s form factor and bigger screen among key reasons behind such willingness.
Interestingly, HONOR’s manufacturing of foldables has just hit the 1 million mark, meaning the potential for mass production is right at its tipping point.
Currently, the HONOR Magic V2 is the best-selling foldable in China, with a 25% market share, per Omdia.
Having the rest of the industry innovate in the foldable space will likely lead to lower prices and make foldable smartphones even more accessible.
Other updates: Eye comfort lab, on-device AI
HONOR also touched on human-centric technology innovation as one of the other key themes during its panel discussion.
The company revealed that it has invested more than US$ 140 million on display technology research and development, as well as developing over 500 display-related patents.
HONOR has just opened a new dedicated eye comfort lab as well to deepen its expertise in this area. For its devices, HONOR is debuting a series of innovative eye comfort features such as its 3840Hz PWM dimming technology and Circadian Night Display.
Meanwhile, it was also announced that during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit in October, HONOR’s upcoming Magic6 smartphone will feature on-device LLM powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform.
This is aligned with HONOR’s intent of utilizing hybrid AI models by using on-device AI for personalized content and services while ensuring user privacy.

The year has one last trick up its sleeve. If you’re still debating on getting a new smartphone for Christmas, OnePlus is about to make your internal debates even more difficult. Ahead of the flagship’s launch next month, the upcoming OnePlus 12 has officially popped up in a new series of teasers.
Today, OnePlus unveiled new images and a teaser video for the OnePlus 12 on YouTube and on Weibo. On their own, the teasers reveal only a couple of details about the new flagship.
For one, the series will come in three different colors: black, white, and green. While the first two colors offer the standard fare for smartphone designs, the green variant features a marble-like texture.
Additionally, users might have noticed that the OnePlus 12 has a different layout for the popular Alert Slider — OnePlus’s dedicated slider to switch between mute, vibrate, and loud. Instead of on the right, the flagship will have the slider on the left side of the phone. According to the company, the switch was done to accommodate a new antenna aimed to reduce latency during gaming sessions.
Besides the teasers, OnePlus has reportedly confirmed (via Yahoo! Hong Kong) that the flagship will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 2K screen. For its cameras, it will have a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 main sensor and a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor.
The stage is seemingly more than set for the OnePlus 12’s launch next month. The flagship is scheduled to launch in China on December 5. A global launch will follow on December 15.
