One of the most celebrated RPGs of all time is back. Square Enix and Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia confirmed that Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles launches on September 30, 2025. The enhanced edition arrives on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, with physical copies available across Southeast Asia.

This new version sharpens the tactical RPG classic with improved visuals, a fully voiced script, and quality-of-life updates. Expect new difficulty options, auto save, a redesigned UI, and other tweaks that make the game easier to jump into.

Players will once again step into the Kingdom of Ivalice, a world of politics, betrayal, and war. The story follows nobleman Ramza Beoulve and his complex ties with Delita Heiral, as both characters navigate loyalty, ambition, and fate.

Square Enix also unveiled fresh key art by Akihiko Yoshida. It highlights the relationship between Ramza and Delita, with Ovelia and Alma looking on—a hint of the paths that lie ahead.

Legendary developers from the original game return, including Kazutoyo Maehiro (director), Hiroshi Minagawa (art director), and Yasumi Matsuno (writer and editor).

Fans will have the option to play the enhanced or the classic version. The enhanced edition features modern visuals, full voice acting, and new gameplay systems. The classic version recreates the 1997 release with the War of the Lionstranslation for those who want the original feel.

Key features include:

  • Strategic, turn-based battles across varied terrain.
  • A deep job system with more than 20 classes and 300 abilities.
  • Quality-of-life tools like fast forward, tactical view, turn-order confirmation, and difficulty adjustments.
  • New dialogue and cutscenes that expand the story.

The voice cast includes Joe Pitts as Ramza, Gregg Lowe as Delita, and Hannah Melbourn as Agrias, alongside other Final Fantasy veterans. Cameos from Cody Christian (Cloud) and Briana White (Aerith) also make an appearance.

Pre-orders come with bonus gear and items for Ramza, including weapons, accessories, and consumables. A Deluxe Edition adds exclusive Akademy equipment and the Ring of Aptitude, which boosts ability growth.

A new gameplay trailer is also live, showing how the reimagined battles look in action.

Tides of Annihilation will make its public playable debut at Gamescom 2026.

Developer Eclipse Glow Games announced that attendees can try an extended demo of the upcoming action-adventure game during the event in Cologne, Germany. Players can find the demo at Hall 6, Booth B-050 inside Koelnmesse.

The studio will also reveal a new trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, before the show floor opens.

Demo offers more exploration and combat

The Gamescom demo gives players a longer look at Tides of Annihilation. It features branching paths that lead to different exploration routes and combat encounters. Players can also explore key locations and experience several of the game’s biggest set pieces.

“Gamescom will be an incredibly important moment for our team since this will be our first global playtest and we’re excited to see how first-time players experience our game,” said Ary Chen, Game Director and Co-CEO of Eclipse Glow Games.

“The team has poured heart, soul, and maybe even a few tears into developing the game over the last few years, and it’s finally our opportunity to share it with players. We’re looking forward to seeing their reaction.”

Members of the press and content creators can also schedule private hands-on sessions with the development team during the event.

Arthurian-inspired adventure

Tides of Annihilation blends fast-paced action with a Neo-Medieval vision of modern London. The story follows Gwendolyn after an Outworld invasion leaves the city in ruins.

Driven by a mission to save her sister, she travels between a shattered London and the mythical realm of Avalon. Along the way, she uncovers the mystery behind her newfound powers. She must also decide the fate of reality itself.

Eclipse Glow Games is developing Tides of Annihilation for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
