iPhone 15 Pro

We all saw the new iPhone 15 series. While the regular series offers an iPhone 14 Pro-sized upgrade, the iPhone 15 Pro series offers much, much more.

Titanium design

Apple touts that the iPhone 15 Pro series has the most advanced design for an iPhone ever. The smartphone will use Grade 5 titanium for better durability. Despite the stronger design, it will be lighter for easier grip.

As was revealed in leaks before, the iPhone 15 Pro series will replace the Ring silent switch with a customizable Action button. Users can easily customize which functionality the button will open.

Much like the regular series, the iPhone 15 Pro series will come in 6.1- and 6.7-inch flavors for the Pro and the Pro Max, respectively. The screens will feature Super Retina XDR, ProMotion, and Standby mode.

A17 Pro

For performance, the series will tout the new A17 Pro chip. The new 3nm chipset offers 10 percent faster performance “than any smartphone.” It sports two high-performance cores, four efficiency cores, and sixteen neural engine cores. With the new USB-C cable, the chip will have a USB controller, boosting transfer speeds 20 times faster.

The chipset will boast a new Pro-class GPU. It features Apple-designed shader architecture. It will also have better ray tracing. It will work with the neural engine to maximize performance while minimizing power usage.

Better zoom, better quality

Like the regular series, the iPhone 15 Pro will have a 48-megapixel camera. With the improved Photonic engine, the camera promises better low-light photos with better HDR. It will also have a 12-megapixel telephoto with a larger 5x optical zoom. Finally, it will have a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera.

With all of these cameras, the series touts better zooming from macro distances to 120mm. Despite the improved zoom, it still boasts better image quality.

Also, paving the way for better integration with the upcoming Apple Vision Pro, the series will allow users to capture Spatial video, a format designed especially for the wearable.

Price and availability

The iPhone 15 Pro series will come in four different titanium colors. Preorders will start on Friday, September 15. Availability will begin on September 22. The iPhone 15 Pro will start at US$ 999. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will start at US$ 1,199.

OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 are the exact same phone

OnePlus confirmed it

If you’re shopping for a foldable phone in the future, you can cross one device off your list — when considering only specs, at least. OnePlus has confirmed that its upcoming foldable smartphone is the exact same device as OPPO’s upcoming foldable.

In an announcement emailed today, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau stated that OnePlus and OPPO have co-developed a foldable device in tandem. Despite being only one device, it will be released as two smartphones, released under both OnePlus’s and OPPO’s banner. To differentiate between the two brands, each device will cater to two different markets.

Lau has not confirmed what these smartphones are. However, given the teases we’ve received from both brands so far, it’s fair to assume what they are. OnePlus, for example, teased a OnePlus Open back in July. OPPO, on the other hand, is set to launch the OPPO Find N3 soon. There is also no confirmation as to which markets will receive the phones. If anything, the Find N3 will likely be a China exclusive when it launches.

In previous rumors from months ago, the foldable device will likely carry a 7.82-inch screen. The secondary screen might extend to 6.31 inches. Inside, it will reportedly have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, complemented by 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It might also have a triple rear camera combination comprised of a 48-megapixel main shooter, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens.

The iPhone 15 is overheating, and Apple knows about it

A fix is coming soon

Published

on

If you couldn’t wait for Christmas and got yourself a new iPhone 15 already, you might have noticed a flaw with your new phone. While using it in certain ways, the smartphone reportedly heats up to uncomfortable levels. Apple has now confirmed that the problem is real. The company is now working on a solution for the issue.

Since the iPhone 15 series launched late last month, several users have reported that the devices in the series can get uncomfortably hot in certain situations. At the time, Apple didn’t know what was causing the issue.

Over the weekend, Apple figured it out. According to Forbes, the company has linked the heating issue with three things: increased background activity, an iOS 17 bug, and some third-party apps.

The first cause is not an issue. During device set-up, the smartphone usually loads up a lot of background processes at once. Naturally, it goes on overdrive, causing the increased temperature.

On the other hand, the next two reasons are noted issues. “We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out,” Apple said.

The iOS 17 update should be coming soon. However, the third-party fixes will be dependent on the developer. Asphalt 9, Instagram, and Uber are already confirmed for the flaw, but only Instagram has received a fix so far.

At the very least, Apple confirms that it’s not a hardware issue. If you’re worried about the potential for hardware failure, you can rest assured that it’s just a software issue.

Xiaomi 13T Pro

Following its global release, the Xiaomi 13T Series, featuring the Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro, immediately makes its way to Singapore.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi 13T Pro comes with two storage variants:

  • 12GB+512GB (available exclusively online at the official Xiaomi store on Shopee): SGD 949
  • 16GB+1TB: SGD 1099

The Xiaomi 13T (12GB+256GB) will be available at SGD 699.

Xiaomi 13T Series

Both phones are equipped with Leica-powered lenses. Like the Xiaomi 13 series launched earlier this year, you get to choose whether you shoot with Leica Authentic or Leica Vibrant. The camera app is also equipped with filters (Leica custom photographic styles) that accentuate the camera’s capabilities.

Other camera features are as follows: Master-lens system: 35mm Documentary lens, 50mm Swirly
bokeh lens, 90mm Soft focus lens, Xiaomi ProFocus, and Night mode.

Other than the camera lenses, the Xiaomi 13T series share the same colorways: Meadow Green, Black, and Alpine Blue. The Alpine Blue colorway is slightly smaller and lighter because it’s made with softly textured Xiaomi BioComfort vegan leather. The other two colors, meanwhile, have a glossy finish. But all colors are IP68 rated making it resistant to some splashes and dust.
