Formula 1’s success these days owes a lot to Netflix’s Drive to Survive. In concise ten-episode chunks per season, the documentary series takes viewers through an entire season of the sport. Next year, Netflix is getting a second Formula 1 series, focusing on F1 Academy, to add to its motorsports slate.

The F1 Academy is a much smaller series attached to Formula 1. Before a few F1 races sprinkled through the season, 15 female drivers take to the circuit. Though the series only started in late 2022, its main goal is to grant developmental opportunities for female drivers in motorsports.

The newly minted series gained a lot of traction because of McLaren’s Bianca Bustamante, the first Filipino driver to win an F1 Academy race. She also has two other podium finishes in the series to her name.

Now, almost a year since winning her race, Bustamante will get her Netflix debut through a new docuseries simply titled F1 Academy. As the name indicates, the upcoming series will focus on the female-only series, much like how Drive to Survive focuses on the main series.

In production now, the series is set to premiere sometime in 2025. It will be produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral is now available for free on YouTube

On TBA Studios’ channel

Published

Back in 2015, Heneral Luna sparked a fever for Philippine history. Though it had its fair share of fictional elements, it stuck to a fairly realistic depiction of the titular general. Years later, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral continued the planned trilogy by depicting Gregorio del Pilar. If you missed the sequel to 2015’s Heneral Luna, now’s your chance to catch up. Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral is now available for free on YouTube.

Uploaded by TBA Studios on YouTube, the entirety of Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral is now available for free. Previously, the same channel also uploaded the movie in nine parts. A few days ago, an unseparated version of the film dropped.

Neither TBA Studios nor director Jerrold Tarog has announced why the video dropped for free. We can only speculate whether the release potentially hints at the trilogy’s unreleased finale.

After Gregorio del Pilar, Tarog envisioned a third film centered around the life of President Manuel L. Quezon, the President of the Commonwealth. Benjamin Alves and TJ Trinidad were tapped to play the president’s younger and older versions, respectively.

With the second film already available in its entirety, Tarog might be gearing up to finally direct the third film. He previously stated that production will start after finishing Darna. He left that project in 2021.

Chris Hemsworth says Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga role ‘ignited something’ in him

Hemsworth plays tyrannical warlord Dementus

Chris Hemsworth | Furiosa

One of the anticipated aspects of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is Chris Hemsworth playing the tyrannical warlord Dementus. You’ve seen him rock the long hair and beard combo before from numerous god of thunder movies. But this time, he’s with the bad side (sort of) in the latest entry to the Mad Max universe.

How did one of the world’s most handsome men end up with a complex antagonist role? Hemsworth said Dementus’ character backstory “ignited something in me that I hadn’t felt for a long, long time.”

“He understood the character straight away,” director George Miller said of Hemsworth as he read the screenplay for the film. “Once I met Chris, saw his response and understood what he was thinking … I thought, ‘Okay, he’s the one who should take on Dementus.”

As aptly noted by film producer Doug Mitchell, Hemsworth and Miller even had an initial conversation about how villains should also possess charisma and a likeable aura. It was from there where Mitchell and Miller felt Hemsworth would be perfect for the role.

Hemsworth’s real-life adventurousness also proved to be useful. As someone who has a penchant for riding motorbikes, surfing, and doing his own stunts. He was able to embrace the role beautifully, describing Dementus as a “complicated individual” who is a product of the Wasteland.

“He’s been manipulated and sculpted through his experience, and I think that experience was one of immense tragedy, fear, pain and loss,” the Thor and Avengers film series protagonist said.

That likeability eventually comes into play when Hemsworth’s Dementus has his humanity awakened while with Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa. The two characters will take viewers for a ride in a story set years before Mad Max: Fury Road.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will show in Philippine theaters starting May 22, 2024.
