Nothing officially launches Phone 1

Potentially launching in your country

The hype has finally paid off. Carl Pei’s Nothing has unveiled its first smartphone, the Phone 1. After months of drip-feeding tidbits to the public, the fledgling company is making good on its promise to create an expanded ecosystem for its products. As expected, the Phone 1 has a lot of things up its sleeve.

Firstly, the new smartphone will sport a “transparent” rear. Though the company promised transparency, the rear won’t show all of the device’s guts; instead, users will get a peek at a clean, uniquely designed rear with lighting strips. These strips do serve multiple functions: a battery light for charging, a notification light, and a light for shooting photos with.

Under the hood, the Phone 1 can deftly hold its own. The phone sports the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset. It also has up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. In front, it has a 6.55-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution.

For cameras, it has a double 50-megapixel rear camera duo (with one acting as an ultrawide shooter) and a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. It runs on the custom Nothing OS laid over Android. Finally, it comes with 4500mAh battery, compatible with 33W of wired charging or 15W of wireless charging.

As you might expect from the OnePlus co-founder, Pei is packing some exclusivity to his new endeavor. The Phone 1 will not launch everywhere. It will launch in around 40 countries starting July 21 and at GBP 399.

OnePlus 12 officially revealed in new teasers

First look and a few specs included

The year has one last trick up its sleeve. If you’re still debating on getting a new smartphone for Christmas, OnePlus is about to make your internal debates even more difficult. Ahead of the flagship’s launch next month, the upcoming OnePlus 12 has officially popped up in a new series of teasers.

Today, OnePlus unveiled new images and a teaser video for the OnePlus 12 on YouTube and on Weibo. On their own, the teasers reveal only a couple of details about the new flagship.

For one, the series will come in three different colors: black, white, and green. While the first two colors offer the standard fare for smartphone designs, the green variant features a marble-like texture.

Additionally, users might have noticed that the OnePlus 12 has a different layout for the popular Alert Slider — OnePlus’s dedicated slider to switch between mute, vibrate, and loud. Instead of on the right, the flagship will have the slider on the left side of the phone. According to the company, the switch was done to accommodate a new antenna aimed to reduce latency during gaming sessions.

Besides the teasers, OnePlus has reportedly confirmed (via Yahoo! Hong Kong) that the flagship will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 2K screen. For its cameras, it will have a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 main sensor and a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor.

The stage is seemingly more than set for the OnePlus 12’s launch next month. The flagship is scheduled to launch in China on December 5. A global launch will follow on December 15.
