Samsung might add S Pen slot for future foldables

To compete with Apple’s future foldable

Published

on

Samsung has enjoyed an undeniable advantage in the foldable smartphone market. Since launching the first Galaxy Fold, the brand has stood largely unopposed in the absence of hardier competitors. That said, the South Korean smartphone maker is still lacking a few knickknacks to make its foldable devices truly spectacular. In the future, it aims to address its weaknesses starting with a proposed S Pen slot.

Unlike the brand’s other lineups, the foldable segment lacks a dedicated holder for the iconic stylus. Ironically, the smaller form factors, like the defunct Galaxy Note series, enjoyed slots for the stylus. The S22 Ultra even has one.

In a recent meeting with suppliers (via TheElec), Samsung has revealed that it is working on a slot to make the lineup more popular among consumers. Given how much hardware the devices pack, a slot might prove challenging for the brand. That said, the brand acknowledges that it is a problem that needs solving.

Additionally, Samsung predicts that the market will have a growth rate of up to 80 percent by 2025. The brand also predicts that Apple will join the foldable market in 2024. Various reports have repeatedly speculated on an upcoming foldable device coming from Apple in the future.

Though Samsung has held the foldable market for a while now, the segment as a whole is still struggling to replace the traditional slab phone as a daily driver. With growth predicted to grow by a lot in the coming years, a foldable future might indeed be in the cards.

Sony WH-1000XM6 gets a new Olive Gray colorway option

The new color launches today.

Last year, the Sony WH-1000XM6 quickly became our favorite pair of noise-cancelling headphones. The audio quality pairs remarkably well with its ANC capabilities. Now, a year into the accessory’s life cycle, new colors are still coming out. Today, the acclaimed WH-1000XM6 is getting an Olive Gray variant.

A few months ago, Sony expanded the WH-1000XM6’s colorway options with a Sandstone version, launching alongside the Sony 1000X THE COLLEXION. At the time, the new color added a splash of life to an already blossoming lineup.

Now, much like the rest of the lineup, the new Olive Gray version is a subdued mashup between olive green and gray. Though it stands out on its own, the color is still cool enough to mix well with the contours of the user’s head.

Other than that, the new version is still identical to the inner workings of the original device. The Sony WH-1000XM6 comes with a new HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, providing 12 microphones for effective noise cancellation. In terms of audio quality, the headphones support High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless, thanks to LDAC support.

Also, the accessory sits comfortable on the head with a high rigidity carbon fiber composite material dome, cushioned well with synthetic leather.

As always, the Olive Gray version, launching today, will sell for US$ 459.99.

In Singapore, the Sony WH-1000XM6 in Olive Gray is available starting today through Sony Stores, the Sony Store Online, and authorized dealers for S$649, matching the pricing of the existing color options.
