Sony E-Mount

Sony is making three more wide-angle E-mount lenses available in the Philippines.

Expanding its lens lineup to now 70, Sony is introducing the following lenses:

  • E PZ 10-20mm F4 G (model SELP1020G)
  • E 15mm F1.4 G (model SEL15F14G)
  • E 11mm F1.8 (model SEL11F18)

All three lenses come with advanced performance features and outstanding image resolution, making them more versatile, reliable, and dependable tools for creators.

They will be available in selected stores from late June 2022.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect from each new lens.

E PZ 10-20mm F4 G

The compact E PZ 10-20mm F4 G is Sony’s smallest and lightest constant F4 ultra-wide-angle power zoom lens.

Optimized for movies, the lens provides speed and framing control for users to emphasize subjects by making them standout from the background, as well as highlighting distance or speed in filming movies.

Its autofocus tracks subjects smoothly even when shooting high-frame rate movies where focus is crucial.

There is also an electronic power zoom system that aids the user for scenes that might be difficult to execute with manual zoom.

The zoom can also be controlled remotely with optional accessory add-ons.

E 15mm F1.4 G

With an aperture of up to F1.4, the wide-angle prime lens for APS-C bodies is best for beauty and depth.

Even at the full F1.4 aperture, the lens’ innovative optical design that includes three aspherical elements will correct field curvature and aberration to deliver outstanding resolution especially in bokeh.

When it comes to filming, the lens has an internal focus mechanism that keeps the overall lens length constant while focusing.

This leads to excellent focus on the subject while also covering more in the background with its 15mm field of view. Unwanted angle-of-view shifts are also avoided.

For better operability, the versatile lens also has:

  • Linear Response MF
  • Aperture ring with click stop on/off switch
  • Focus hold button
  • Focus mode switch

E 11mm F1.8

Similar to what the E 15mm F1.4 G has to offer, the E 11mm F1.8 lets users take deep bokeh with smoothly defocused backgrounds using its large F1.8 maximum aperture lens.

With the help of spherical aberration control and a 7-blade circular aperture, dynamic ultra-wide photos are made possible.

Its compact size and light weight also make the lens convenient for long sessions of handheld or grip-mounted shooting.

And like the E 15mm F1.4 G, the ultra-wide lens is an excellent tool for shooting subjects against beautiful backgrounds. Changing the focus from the foreground to the background is also seamless.

What’s unique is the lens also allows the use of front filters for more flexibility in shooting situations.

Amid efforts to make them easier to use, drones still haven’t evolved into must-own devices. However, the market’s plateaued demand doesn’t stop others from trying their hand at making drones more popular. Today, Snapchat is joining the market with its own drone.

Called the Pixy, the Snapchat drone touts ease of use as its biggest advantage from its rivals. Weighing at just 101 grams, the tiny drone can capture capable photos with its 12-megapixel camera, which can also shoot 2.7K video at up to 30 fps.

If you don’t know how to fly a drone, the Pixy can fly without a controller. It has four main modes of flying. Standard with most drones, it can follow to user from two to three meters behind. A Hover mode freezes the Pixy’s flight in place for up to 60 seconds. The Orbit mode takes the drone to a circular path around your hand. Finally, the Reveal mode takes the drone back to you from a distance away.

All four modes are part of the usual palette of flight paths for drone content today. It’s definitely a creator-friendly device. Adding to this ease, the drone can easily send videos back to your phone using the Snapchat app.

Under the hood, the Pixy can store up to 16GB of data in its internal storage. The drone’s battery is reportedly enough for five to eight flights. Additionally, charging the battery to 80 percent can take as little as 20 minutes.

The Pixy is currently available only in the United States and in France. The drone will set you back by US$ 229.
