Sony Xperia XZ2 makes its way to the Philippines with official price
Time to save up!
After having successful launches in the US and Singapore, Sony’s flagship Xperia XZ2 is now making its way to the Philippines with pricing and availability.
Beginning May 11, interested parties can purchase the Xperia XZ2 for PhP 43,990, which converts to about US$ 840. That’s a little higher than the US pricing of US$ 799. The available colors are Liquid Black and Liquid Silver.
Initially introduced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last February, the Xperia XZ2 is Sony’s first premium smartphone of the year. It owns an all-new design that’s far removed from Xperias of old, but it’s still equipped with a high-end Snapdragon 845 processor and single high-speed main camera.
As a preview, you can see what’s inside the box and watch our initial impressions here:
Notice something missing? Yup, the Xperia XZ2 Compact isn’t part of the Philippine lineup. The same thing happened during the Xperia XZ1 launch last year, wherein the smaller XZ1 Compact didn’t make a local appearance because Sony didn’t see it making a strong enough impact on the Philippine market. Likewise, the absence of the XZ2 Compact is a result of Sony Philippines believing that local consumers prefer larger phones.
The next question is when the Xperia XZ2 Premium will begin its regional rollout. Having been reduced to a surprise launch last week, the dual-camera flagship may still take a while to become globally available, but Sony assures us that it’ll reach the Philippines in due time.
