IFA 2017 has brought the world many wondrous gadgets like the LG V30 and Acer Predator Orion 9000, but the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin — one of the world’s biggest consumer trade show — has more interesting gadgets. A lot more.

Here are a few interesting gadgets that caught my eye, straight from the Berlin show.

We’ve all seen the Huawei P10 Plus and what it can do, but never in this color! This special edition P10 Plus is the brainchild of Chinese designer Lan Yu. It comes in a beautiful jewelry box with embroidered cases. Oh, did I mention that the phone itself comes in jade?

Purple LG V30

LG’s newest flagship, the LG V30, was just released at IFA. It’s a definite multimedia powerhouse! But, aside from its many pros, it comes in the prettiest shade of lavender I’ve seen on a phone! This handset also comes in black, silver, and blue.

Bosch X-Spect stain and fabric scanner

HOME CONNECT X-SPECT

HOME CONNECT X-SPECT

This nifty device from Bosch can scan your clothes and automatically forward the information to your washer to ensure the best temperature and wash settings for your garment. As if that isn’t cool enough, it can scan food (even if it’s not on your clothes!) and tell you its composition. In the future, the brand hopes to use this technology to forward information to cooking appliances, like ovens, to ensure the optimum way of cooking the food you just scanned.

Panasonic 3-in-1 Microcurrent Facial Enhancer

This Panasonic wand cleanses skin, ensures hydration, and removes wrinkles via heat technology, sonic vibrations, and microcurrents. Look younger and fresher everyday — just imagine doing your own facials all because of this amazing gadget!

This is not just an electric toothbrush — this is the electric toothbrush! It has built-in sensors which can scan your mouth and automatically select the best brushing mode for “exceptional oral health results!”

These are just some of our amazing IFA 2017 finds. I’m excited for what next year’s IFA will bring!

Lenovo is all for bringing the best possible experience even from a peripheral standpoint. This time around, they want to extend the experience to another important peripheral in any workstation: the webcam. To complement, they’re also releasing two new monitors with their own great features. However, the star of the show is the Lenovo LC50 Modular Webcam.

The Lenovo LC50 Modular Webcam promises to bring clear audio and video quality fit for video calls and even streaming. It comes with a 1080p sensor that captures video at 30 frames per second, which is pretty standard for FHD webcams. Apart from this, it even comes with dual noise-cancelling microphones and the lens has a 4x digital zoom capacity. Also, it comes with a physical lens shutter when you’re not using it.

Other cool features with this webcam include its built-in tilt capacity and magnetic base. These two tie in well with Lenovo’s two new monitors: the Lenovo L32p-30 and the Lenovo L27m-30. In essence, the LC50 Modular Webcam magnetically attaches to the frame of either the 31.5-inch (L32P-30) or 27-inch (L27m-30) monitor of your choosing.

As for the monitors themselves, the Lenovo L32p-30 monitor sports a 4K resolution with HDR10 support, which is best suited for the next-gen consoles. Meanwhile, the Lenovo L27m-30 comes with a 75Hz refresh rate and TUV Rheinland EyeSafe certification to to relieve eye strain.

Pricing and availability for the LC50 Modular Webcam and the two monitors are as follows:

Creating your own mobile workstation for school or work isn’t as simple as most people make it out to be. For the most part, it requires sets of devices that are compatible with each other in the long run. Now, Lenovo plans to basically challenge with their own set of mobile devices to get you started. Enter the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook and the Lenovo L15 Mobile Monitor.

Some brand new Chromebooks for work

For the laptop department, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook provides several key features that fit a mobile workstation. For starters, an 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM provides suitable performance for this 2-in-1 laptop. Also, it comes with 512GB of SSD storage, which is quite ample for all your software and documents. In essence, it’s the ideal device to bring with you to work, or set down on the table for school.

Another nifty feature unique to the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook is its 720p webcam for video conferencing. This is particularly useful if you’re not keen on spending a bit more for a dedicated webcam for your laptop. Finally, the IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook sports 10 hours worth of battery life, which is decent for work.

Apart from this laptop, Lenovo also announced the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook. This device comes with hardware similar to the IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook, just without the webcam. Also, the IdeaPad 5i Chromebook is a standard laptop with a 14-inch IPS non-touch display.

 Your next, mobile 2nd screen

For most of you, a mobile workstation isn’t complete without a 2nd display to work on. Of course, the obvious benefit to having a 2nd display is an extended workspace, particularly for multitasking purposes. This is where the Lenovo L15 Mobile Monitor comes in with its 15.6-inch IPS, anti-glare display. Also, you can connect either your laptop or your smartphone to this mobile monitor for an extended viewing experience.

In terms of setting it up, it’s as simple as connecting the USB Type-C cable to supported devices. If workstation space is an issue, you can orient the monitor however you wish thanks to its adjustable foot. Also, it’s quite light and easy to carry around, making it the ideal on-the-go 2nd display option.

Prices and availability for these devices are as follows:

  • Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Chromebook (July 2021), IdeaPad Flex 5i Chromebook (June 2021); both starting at EUR 399
