vivo has officially unveiled the vivo V40 series. Consisting of the vivo V40 and the vivo V40 Pro, the latest smartphones continue the brand’s partnership with ZEISS, bringing professional level portrait photography on mobile devices.

Both the vivo V40 and vivo V40 Pro come with 50MP ZEISS OIS main cameras. On the V40 Pro is a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX921 sensor, while the standard V40 has a Samsung ISOCELL GNJ sensor.

Both models have an f/1.88 aperture for enhanced light intake, ensuring clear portraits and nightscapes. Together with OIS, the phones reduce blur and produce sharp and bright images.

Also on the Pro model is another 50MP ZEISS telephoto portrait camera, which uses a Sony IMX816 sensor. This shooter supports 2x optical zoom and up to 50x ZEISS Ultra HD Zoom.

Lastly on the rear camera packages are a 50MP Ultra Wide-Angle camera with AF tracking and a 119-degree field of view. The rear cameras are all arranged in a new Gemini Ring design, inspired by the constellation.

Completing the series’ cameras are another 50MP ZEISS Group Selfie camera in front with smart autofocus.

This camera in particular is improved with AI Facial Contouring Technology that effectively reduces common facial distortion issues for more natural-looking portraits.

Advanced AI portrait features

Another enhancement for the series is the ZEISS Multifocal Portrait feature. With this innovation, users may integrate professional portrait focal lengths into their photography. The V40 Pro offers 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 100mm focal lengths, while the V40 supports 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm.

Furthermore, the series offers master-level professional portrait templates tailored for each scenarios. This way, pointing and shooting will already suffice. Each focal length also offers optimized color tones and corresponding ZEISS Style Bokeh.

On the videography side, the series likewise empowers users to take cinema-level content with 4K and ZEISS Cinematic Bokeh Video (2:39:1 aspect ratio). This feature is further taken to the next level with ZEISS Focus Transition, which smoothly switches focus and follows the main character based on the direction they are facing.

Of course, as the V series is the brand’s Aura Light Portrait Expert, the V40 phones also boast of an AI Aura Light Portrait. It comes in a smaller size, but has three times brighter light. Electronically controlled dimming technology also optimizes lighting according to different scenarios at up to 4x zoom.

Furthermore, AI 3D Studio Lighting helps enhance image quality by adding precise and natural fill light. This add-on utilizes advanced algorithms for 3D facial light recognition analysis. In turn, an additional layer of 3D fill light improves portraits taken under low light or at night.

Sleek design, smooth and powerful performance

The latest devices are housed in a sleek, lightweight design, making them vivo’s slimmest 5,500mAh battery phones to date. The phones are also equipped with 80W FlashCharge.

The V40 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ processor. On the other hand, the V40 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform. They both have 12GB of base RAM (plus 12GB extended RAM).

In front, both phones under the series have a 1.5K Ultra Clear Sunlight AMOLED 3D curved screen with 120Hz refresh rate. They also come with a 4,500 nits peak brightness, so users can view what’s on the display even under the sun.

For the first time in the V series as well, the V40 series introduces a Dual Stereo Speaker system with 3D stereo sound to amplify the audiovisual experience.

Price, availability

The vivo V40 series is now available in India. It will gradually roll out to other markets in the following weeks. Availability, pricing, and configurations of each model will naturally vary according to their respective local markets.

vivo X300 Ultra goes global with ZEISS Master Lenses

vivo has officially announced the global launch of the X300 Ultra, marking the first international debut of its top-tier imaging flagship.

The device introduces the ZEISS Master Lenses Collection, featuring triple prime focal lengths at 14mm, 35mm, and 85mm. It supports up to 200MP output across key focal lengths and can extend reach to 200mm and 400mm using optional telephoto extenders.

A 200MP 85mm telephoto camera with gimbal-level stabilization and 60fps AF tracking enables detailed long-range shots. Meanwhile, the 35mm camera uses a large Sony LYTIA sensor for natural perspective and improved low-light performance.

For video, the X300 Ultra supports multi-focal 4K 120fps recording in both 10-bit Log and Dolby Vision formats. It also introduces Pro Video mode with LUT support and compatibility with ACES workflows for advanced color grading.

The phone runs on Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a dedicated imaging chip. It packs a 6600mAh battery with 100W wired and 40W wireless charging.

Other features include a 2K ZEISS Master Color Display, quad-mic audio recording system, IP68/IP69 durability, and up to five years of OS updates.

vivo has announced the vivo X300 FE, a compact flagship built around pro-grade imaging, long battery life, and extended software support.

The device features a ZEISS co-engineered camera system, led by a 50MP Super Telephoto camera with up to 200mm equivalent focal length via the all-new Telephoto Extender Gen 2. It also includes a 50MP main camera alongside a 110° ultra-wide lens.

Lenovo’s Legion is coming back to the gaming phone segment

Last year, the gaming phone segment received a huge blow when ASUS pulled the plug on the ROG Phone. Another brand is ready to take its place, though. Lenovo has been teasing the return of the Legion Phone. Lenovo’s gaming-centric brand is releasing the refreshed Legion Y70 in May.

Lenovo picks up where it last left off. Back in 2022, the brand launched the original Y70 in different circumstances. Most especially, it launched in a market with heavy competition from the ROG Phone. Now that the latter has called it quits, Lenovo is ready to step in.

And yes, according to a leaked photo, it does look like a Motorola phone, especially with the rear camera design. After all, Lenovo does own Motorola, so the similarities make sense.

In terms of hardware, it’s unknown which piece of hardware will come to the new phone. Since it’s a gaming phone, you can expect some beefy specs for all your gaming needs. Besides that, it’s confirmed that the device will also feature a heavy heaping of AI to help the performance along.

Now, in a Weibo post, Lenovo has confirmed that the new Legion Y70 is coming in May. That said, it will be a China-exclusive release for now. The brand ahs not confirmed whether the phone will arrive in international markets after the initial launch.
