WB is developing a Quidditch game

Playtesting is now open

Published

on

To say the least, the recently released Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most controversial titles in recent gaming history. Though the game itself was remarkable, it couldn’t shake off the scandals from the franchise’s creator, J.K. Rowling. Despite the reception, the Wizarding World keeps chugging on in the world of gaming. Warner Bros. has officially confirmed an upcoming game based on Quidditch.

It’s not a full game yet. Instead, Warner Bros. has only opened a testing period for fans who want to try out the developing title. The game, titled Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, is a full-blown multiplayer experience for the iconic sport set in the Wizarding World.

The site, which invites players to join the playtest, only features a simple graphic showcasing what’s to come. Compared to the more realistic offerings of Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch Champions has a more cartoony look reminiscent of Multiversus and Fortnite.

Though the upcoming title will fall under the Portkey Games label, Unbroken Studios helms the development, rather than Hogwarts Legacy’s Avalanche Software. Besides the Quidditch-based game, the studio is also assisting Rocksteady Studios in developing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

As for the game itself, this isn’t the first title to showcase Quidditch as the main gameplay mechanic. Back in 2003, an EA-developed title called Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup featured teams from both Hogwarts and around the world to compete for the titular World Cup. If the upcoming game is like the 2003 title, it should be quite a blast to play through.
