WWE 2K24 cover features Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Bianca Belair

First time two female Superstars are on a cover

Wrestling fans love the start of the year. The annual Royal Rumble (and March’s WrestleMania) are just around the corner. Coinciding with the extravaganza, WWE 2K, the annual wrestling simulator, is releasing its annual entry around the same time. To prepare for the release, 2K Games has announced the cover stars for both the Standard and Deluxe editions of WWE 2K24.

Who’s on the cover?

First of all, the Standard edition will feature Cody Rhodes. Returning to WWE in 2022 after establishing All Elite Wrestling (WWE’s biggest rival in years), Rhodes has been on a quest to “finish the story,” detailing his quest from pariah to prodigal son. He’s currently in an attempt to dethrone the current WWE Champion Roman Reigns.

On the flip side, the Deluxe edition will feature two Superstars: Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley. Since debuting in NXT, the two wrestlers have proven themselves as the faces of the current generation of female wrestlers. This is also the first time that two female wrestlers are featured on a WWE 2K cover. Likewise, Belair is the first woman of color to grace a cover.

Besides the two editions, WWE 2K24 will also have a Forty Years of WrestleMania edition. The cover for the most premium edition will feature the most iconic wrestlers in the history of WrestleMania including Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, The Rock, Andre the Giant, Brock Lesnar, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair.

What’s new

WWE 2K24 will feature the return of the previous entries’ most famed features including MyGM, MyFACTION, MyRISE, and Universe. However, it is revamping the 2K Showcase, renaming the gameplay mode to 2K Showcase… of the Immortals. Rather than focusing on only one Superstar, the game mode will relive the most iconic moment throughout WrestleMania’s history.

The wrestling sim will have a huge roster with over 200 playable characters featuring both modern-day Superstars and Legends. New match types are also coming including the Special Guest Referee, the Ambulance Match, Casket Match, and Gauntlet Match. Existing match types are getting some gameplay improvements, too.

WWE 2K24: Price and availability

The Deluxe and the Forty Years of WrestleMania editions will launch on March 5 this year. Meanwhile, the Standard and Standard Cross-Gen editions will launch on March 8.

The Standard Edition will cost US$ 59.99 on previous-gen consoles and PC, but US$ 69.99 for current-gen consoles. Preorders will include four playable characters: two alternate Cody Rhodes skins, a 1976 version of Dusty Rhodes, and Superstar Billy Graham. It also comes with three MyFACTION cards including one of Cody’s dog, Pharaoh (yes, his dog).

Meanwhile, the Deluxe Edition will come with the previous edition’s perks, plus a Season pass for all five post-launch DLCs. It also comes with several MyFACTION cards of Belair and Ripley, and a Mega-Boost for MyRISE. It costs US$ 99.99.

Finally, the Forty Years of WrestleMania edition will feature all of the above. It will also have the Forty Years of WrestleMania Pack, a package of alternate attires for Randy Savage, Rey Mysterio, Triple H, Charlotte Flair, and Rhea Ripley. It will also have immediate unlocks for locked Showcase characters and the WrestleMania 40 arena (coming later after launch).

Ubisoft co-founder dies in plane crash

Claude Guillemot was one of five brothers that founded Ubisoft.

Claude Guillemot, one of the four co-founders of Ubisoft, has died last week in a plane crash. He was 69 years old.

As reported via Bloomberg, Guillemot died alongside the plane’s other passenger. They both died in La Baule in France.

Regardless of how you feel about the company today, Ubisoft is still an undeniable reason why RPGs are so popular. In 1984, Guillemot started the company with his four brothers. Since then, it’s become a household name for gaming. Its portfolio includes Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Splinter CellAnno, and Far Cry. Despite the prolific resume, the company is currently struggling to recreate the magic that made it so popular over a decade ago. Its current efforts include remaking Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, which launches next month.

Though Claude might not be your first thought when thinking of Ubisoft, the company is still owned by the family, headed by his brother Yves. Claude, however, was the chairman of Guillemot Corp.

“Ubisoft was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., in an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. No further statements will be made at this time,” Ubisoft said about his passing.
