Miya Cech to play Toph in Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix

Miya Cech will play the blind earthbending master in Season 2

Earlier in the year, it was announced that the Netflix live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is getting renewed for Seasons 2 and 3. That meant getting Books 2 and 3 in live action.

Of course, the plot of Book 2 of the renowned Nickelodeon animated series focused on earthbending. So naturally, fans were curious to know who’d play Toph Beifong, the blind earthbending master who would be key to Avatar Aang mastering the skill, in the Netflix version.

At Geeked Week 2024 over the weekend, the answer to that question has finally been known. Netflix announced that Miya Cech will play Toph in Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Cech wasn’t personally in attendance at the in-person event, but tuned in when the reveal was announced. She was alongside Gordon Cormier himself, who plays Aang.

The 17-year-old Asian-American actress made her acting debut for CBS drama series Hawaii Five-0 back in 2015. She also starred in films The Darkest Minds and Rim of the World.

Cech is no stranger to both Netflix and Nickelodeon either. She has played roles in a film and a series, respectively, under both platforms.

She played the pre-teen version of Sasha Tran in 2019 Netflix film Always Be My Maybe. Moreover, he also assumed the role of Akiko Yamato in children’s horror anthology series Are You Afraid of the Dark?

In addition to this development, Netflix has bared that ATLA Season 2 is now officially in production. On social media, a brief teaser was also posted. The 45-second clip shows Toph’s feet as she stomps to give a glimpse of her earthbending prowess (and how the VFX looks too).
