The HUAWEI Mate X6 is now available for preorders in the Philippines. It has a price tag of PhP 114,999.

Now, that may look like a stiff asking price for HUAWEI’s latest flagship foldable, but it comes with a bunch of freebies as well when you preorder until January 30, 2025.

Aside from getting the HUAWEI Mate X6 (Nebula Red or Black), customers will get the following:

  • HUAWEI WATCH GT 4
  • DJI Neo drone
  • PhP 10,000 trade-in credits
  • One (1) year Accidental Screen Damage Protection

That’s a total of PhP 44,797 worth of freebies, so the overall package is quite worth its value, especially if you’re a HUAWEI user.

Customers can place preorders via Lazada, Shopee, TikTok, the HUAWEI Online Store, and HUAWEI Experience Stores nationwide.

In addition, an exclusive VIP preview for the foldable and the HUAWEI nova 13 series shall be held at 35 select Experience stores at the following dates and times:

  • January 18 to 19, 3:00 PM
  • January 25 to 26, 3:00 PM

Premium design, lightweight durability

The HUAWEI Mate X6 has a Space-Age Orbit camera layout and an exclusive vegan fiber finish. It’s also thin and light, weighing just 239 grams and measuring 9.85 millimeters thick when folded.

And when unfolded, the phone is just 4.6mm thick. The rounded, soft-quad curve frame with smooth corners enhances the premium appearance while ensuring a comfortable grip.

Frame, hinge

Moreover, the book-style foldable has an aviation-grade aluminum middle frame. This high-strength material protects the device from impact during accidental drops.

Onto its hinge, the Mate X6 uses a HUAWEI advanced multi-dimensional hinge for a new standard in durability and performance.

It’s made from 1900MPa ultra-high strength steel, increasing strength and ensuring it can endure frequent opening and closing over time.

Displays

The Mate X6’s exterior screen is protected by 2nd gen KUNLUN Glass, which is 25 times more drop-resistant than traditional glass.

Meanwhile, the interior screen has a carbon fiber screen plate to significantly boost the screen’s strength. As such, the supporting layer has a deformation resistance of 380 GPa, of 65% stiffer than materials commonly found on smartphones.

The system also has smart heat dissipation design with graphene film, as well as a 3D VC heat spreader. Along with Ultra-High Thermal Conductivity Graphene, the phone efficiently transfers heat and cools down quickly when on demanding tasks.

Complementing all these features is a two-meter IPX8 water resistance.

Camera package

HUAWEI also improved the mate X6’s cameras. The foldable has a 50MP Ultra Aperture Camera, 40MP ultra-wide angle lens, and 48MP telephoto micro camera.

With Live Multi-Task, the Mate X6 enhances productivity by allowing users to run three applications simultaneously on the unfolded display.

Users can go on a video call, project a presentation, and make notes all at once. This can also be utilized for entertainment.

The razr fold enters motorola into the book-style foldable market

motorola is already saying it has the best foldable camera system in the industry.

Published

on

Motorola’s razr is known exclusively for only one type of foldable: the clamshell phone. Even before foldables were a thing in today’s landscape, the razr has already been creating cool kids from the aughts. Today, the lineup is flipping the story, if you will, by launching its first book-type foldable simply called the razr fold.

For the first time, the razr fold brings the horizontally folding form factor to the motorola family. The already sizable 6.6-inch external display unfolds into a larger 8.1-inch 2K LTPO main screen. Thickness wise, the folded 9.9mm thin form factor unfolds into a 4.6mm thin device. Even better, the foldable will be the world’s first smartphone to rock the newly announced Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, which boasts 75 percent better drop performance compared to older devices.

Inside, the phone carries the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. This package of performance works well whether you’re using the phone as a smartphone, in tent mode, or laptop mode (which isn’t a mode often advertised by foldables).

For cameras, the razr fold reportedly has the best foldable smartphone camera system, according to its DXOMARK Gold Label. The trio consists of a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 828 main sensor, a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 600 periscope telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel 122° FOV ultrawide lens. This trio is paired with a 32-megapixel internal selfie cam and a 20-megapixel external selfie cam.

Finally, the razr fold will come with a 6000mAh battery, supported by 80W TurboPower, which can refuel the battery for more than 12 hours in just 12 minutes.

There’s no word on price and availability yet, but motorola says the foldable should be out in North America within the coming months.

Apple unveils the iPhone 17e

The new iPhone was unveiled ahead of Apple’s event.

Usually a stickler for grand launches, Apple has jumped the gun and unleased the iPhone 17e ahead of its scheduled event on March 4.

The iPhone 17e will build on the tradition started by the iPhone 16e, itself an evolution of the iPhone SE lineup. Like its predecessor, the newest member of the iPhone lineup will meld affordability with the classic iOS experience.

Inside, the iPhone 17e is powered by the A19 chip, the same one powering the main iPhone 17 series. It will also feature the latest-generation C1X modem, which promises to be twice as fast as the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e.

Meanwhile, outside the iPhone 17e is a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, sporting Ceramic Shield 2, which offers thrice as much scratch resistance compared to the previous generation, and up to 1200 nits of brightness. For durability, it has an IP68 rating.

You won’t find the large camera island in this iPhone, but it will still rock a capable 48-megapixel Fusion camera, paired with a 2x Telephoto lens. It’s capable of shooting 4K Dolby Vision videos, up to 60 frames per second.

You’ll also find the traditional fare of iPhone accoutrements including MagSafe, Emergency SOS, and Roadside Assistance.

Finally, the iPhone 17e’s battery features an all-day battery life, which can charge up to 50 percent in only 30 minutes using the USB-C charger.

Price, availability

The iPhone 17e will be available for preorder starting March 4 and will be available starting March 11. It will have three colorway options: black, white, and soft pink. You can grab it in 256GB and 512GB configurations. It starts at US$ 599 (or PhP 44,990).
