Disney+: 8 shows to watch, according to Filipino celebrities

As we all know by now, Disney+ will finally arrive in the Philippines on November 17.

To celebrate the expansion of the streaming service in the country, a star-studded showcase hosted by Catriona Gray and Robi Domingo called “A Night of Wonder with Disney+” will happen on Thursday at 8PM.

Local Filipino landmarks will be transformed into stages. Renowned singers including Morissette, Christian Bautista, Janella Salvador, Stell of SB19, Zack Tabudlo, and Zephanie are all performing to celebrate the Pinoys’ love for music.

A Night of Wonder with Disney+ will be shown on Disney+ and its Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok platforms in the Philippines.

Moreover, here are eight celebrity picks to watch once Disney+ is available on your devices.

Catriona Gray – The Lion King (2019)

Directed by Jon Favreau, the live-action remake of a classic features an all-star ensemble which includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon.

Robi Domingo – Andor

The Andor series explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series also puts a spotlight on the rebellion against the Empire and how everyone else became involved.

Christian Bautisa – Marvel Studios’ What If…?

What If…? gives fans a different look at plots within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways.

Zack Tabudlo – Moon Knight

Gift-shop employee Steven Grant discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector, his total opposite. They must navigate their complex identities while being thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Morissette – The Little Mermaid

Before another timeless classic gets a live-action remake, rewatch the movie centered on Ariel, the fun-loving and mischievous mermaid who is enchanted with all things human and explores the surface world which leads her to a one-of-a-kind adventure.

Stell of SB19 – High School Musical

Who can forget Disney’s three-part movie series wherein Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens star as Troy and Gabriella, respectively, throwing people of all ages back to their high school days? All three films are likewise available on the platform.

Janella Salvador – Disenchanted (Releasing on November 18)

In search of more to life after 15 years of marriage, Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) move to the suburbs of Monroeville to begin again. However, they are met by Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), which leads to Giselle turning to Andalasia’s magic for help. Unfortunately, she turns the entire town into a real-life fairy tale that she will have to conquer to save her family.

Zephanie – Aladdin (2019)

Lastly, Disney’s thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Aladdin features crowd favorite Will Smith as the Genie, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, and Mena Massoud as Aladdin.

Netflix: Kris Aquino makes on-screen comeback with fictional role

Long-time popular Philippine TV icon Kris Aquino has made her on-screen comeback as Netflix’s fictional C.H.I.K.A., or “Chief Head of Insights and Kontent Analysis.”

Netflix initially teased the campaign through a post mentioning that they were “hiring” for the said position.

The post also contained a bullet list of descriptions that served as clues. Not long after, the streaming giant bared the former presidential daughter and presidential sister has made her comeback.

A teaser has likewise been released. The fun skit features Aquino in this new fictional role, giving her signature witty commentary inside the Netflix editing room to ensure that the production of local entertainment content is of topnotch quality.

Two more episodes will be rolled out on August 14 and 20.

Apple Fifth Avenue or Nelson Road? New Yorkers gathered at the iconic flagship store as it transformed into a slice of AFC Richmond for a Ted Lasso lookalike contest celebrating the return of the hit Apple TV+ series.

Dozens of fans arrived in Ted’s signature look, complete with mustaches, visors, blue sweaters, and khakis. Inside the store, the AFC Richmond takeover continued with themed photo opportunities and hidden Easter eggs for longtime fans to discover.

The celebration continued across Midtown and Central Park, where brand ambassadors spread kindness with “Believe” signs, complimentary coffee and tea, a tunnel of cheering Teds for runners, and the Goldfish Zone, where visitors symbolically let go of worries by dropping paper fish into a fishbowl.

The takeover marked the return of Ted Lasso, which premiered its fourth season on Apple TV+ on Aug. 5, which arrives more than three years after Season 3 concluded in 2023.

Jason Sudeikis returns as the relentlessly optimistic coach, this time leading AFC Richmond’s newly formed women’s team while reuniting with familiar faces.

Street Fighter special look: Blanka vs. Ryu

Paramount Pictures has released a new special look for Street Fighter featuring Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji.

The short, minute-long clip shows the actors’ respective characters, Blanka and Ryu, in battle.

It opens with a chained prisoner struck by extreme electrical charges, transforming into the green-skinned, electricity-infused Blanka.

He unleashes a fierce roar. Meanwhile, Ryu drops into a fighting stance, but tells Blanka he does not want to fight him.

Forced to defend himself, Ryu then fires a signature Hadouken fireball towards Blanka, as the teaser cuts to the Street Fighter title card.

Street Fighter debuts in cinemas starting October 14. It is directed by Kitao Sakurai and stars an ensemble cast that includes Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai as Akuma, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, among others.

The film is set in 1993 when estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown into combat when Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament.
