Google Authenticator makes it easier to use more than one phone

Cloud backups are enabled

Published

on

Going online has never been safer than it is today. Digital users no longer have to rely on easily hackable or increasingly complex passwords. However, the price of more complex methods of authentication is harder recovery when things go awry. Google Authenticator, one of the more popular methods to authenticate users, has introduced cloud backups to prevent accidental losses.

Using the Authenticator app can get hairy when switching phones. Regardless of whether a user loses their original phone or is simply upgrading to a new one, the app demands that users switch over their codes to the new device. It’s problematic when the user no longer has access to the original device.

With the new update to the app, Google will now store codes in the cloud. Users can continue using Authenticator even on another device. Users who have already received the update can enter the app and follow the on-screen instructions to enable the new feature.

Google Authenticator remains one of the most reliable names in two-factor authentication. The security method adds an extra layer for users. After the user provides their password to log-in, the service requests for a code from an authorized app. The code refreshes after a set period of time, which makes that one device with the app important.

As you might surmise, losing access to that device can create complications. Now, it’s easier to keep feeling secure even on another device.
