Google does its own Pixel 3 vs iPhone XS photo comparison

The bias is real

Published

on

We’re fond of publishing shootouts to compare the best smartphone cameras against each other. Sometimes, we even turn them into blind comparisons to get readers involved. What a Google rep has done, however, takes this format to another, more biased level.

Marvin Chow, VP of Product Marketing at Google, had this tweet to share:

While it’s not clear at first what exactly “Phone X” is, tiny text at the lower-left corner reveals that this was taken using an iPhone XS — a phone Google considers to be the Pixel 3’s direct rival.

The photo comparison is a bit extreme, showing how the Pixel 3’s Night Sight mode illuminates the scene with minimal lighting. The iPhone XS, on the other hand, keeps the subject dark and looking liking a shadow in front of the neon lights.

Reactions to the tweet have been mixed. Some say the Pixel 3’s photo went overboard with processing, while others believe that the iPhone XS wasn’t given a fair chance.

It seems like Google simply wants to point out that iPhones lack any sort of night mode in their camera app, and that Pixels are the leader at this. And of course, comparisons like this spark debate between fan boys. It certainly happened here.

Samsung launches the QLED 8K TV in the Philippines

Is it Samsung’s best TV yet?

Samsung has just launched the QLED 8K TV in the Philippines. It’s the country’s first commercially available 8K TV promising to elevate the way viewers watch through its bigger and smarter screen.

Powered by a Quantum Processor 8K, Samsung’s newest TV can produce pristine images for a more immersive experience. It also boasts an AI upscaling technology which converts low resolution content into near 8K quality. Whether you stream in 4K, Full HD, HD, or even SD, the Quantum processor will work its magic to give you a premium experience.

In an exclusive with GadgetMatch, Samsung’s Head of Product Marketing for Audio and TV Lauro Guevara explained that the Quantum Processor 8K contains a database of millions of videos and images.

“When you play a video, it compares that video to its database, and then optimizes it, sharpens the images, and reduces noise and textures based on the type of scene,” Guevara added.

Aside from the rich visual experience, the QLED 8K TV supports Bixby on TV to help viewers (especially parents) access content easily through voice command.

For design-conscious consumers, this humongous TV can easily blend in your wall with its magic screen feature, accessible through an app. It’s pretty nifty for those who hate seeing an empty, black panel sitting in the middle of their living room.

Apart from the flagship QLED 8K TV, Samsung also showcased its full TV lineup for 2019: QLED 4K TVs with AI upscaling capabilities. A wider selection of 2019 soundbars developed with Harman Kardon were also on display.

The Samsung QLED 8K TV will be available on the first week of May. It’s suggested retail price for the 75-inch QLED 8K TV is PhP 599,999 (US$ 11,503) while the 82-inch QLED 8K TV costs PhP 999,999 (US$ 19,172).

First look at the theme here

The Honor 20 is coming soon and as the launch date draws near, we find out more details about the elusive device. Our latest news on the matter confirms that there will be a version of the Honor handset that fashion house Moschino worked on.

Supposedly even more high-fashion than the Honor View 20 which Moschino similarly worked on, the Italian fashion brand was said to have been given more creative control on the back design of this upcoming phone. Moschino was left in charge of the color, theme, material, and finish– and we see a little preview of this handiwork with images that surfaced today.

The Honor 20 Moschino Edition will come with a matching case and purse. Pictured above, the simple red Moschino theme and that chain detail on the it makes me think it’s going to be a device ladies will enjoy. Although we don’t exactly see the phone on the images, I bet it’s going to be one heck of a looker.
