A popular Pixies song is shutting off Google alarms

Published

on

Missing an alarm in the morning is a filthy feeling. It’s even worse if your device inexplicably turns off an alarm on its own. Now, if you happen to have a popular Pixies song as your alarm through Google Assistant, you might find this happening too often for your liking.

Regardless of how much you like the band’s other classics, “Where Is My Mind?” is undoubtedly the band’s most impactful ditty today. First popularized by 1999 cult classic Fight Club, the song now lives on in several circles, such as classic alternative rock playlists and even American professional wrestling. (AEW wrestler Orange Cassidy formerly used the song as his entrance theme.)

If you’ve heard the song in its entirety before, you know how it goes: a guitar intro followed by an abrupt “Stop!” from Pixies vocalist Black Francis. Uttering “stop” is notably one way to cancel an ongoing Google Assistant alarm. Put two and two together, and you have a recipe for a bad morning.

On Reddit, u/asevarte noticed the incident. However, it took a while for the user to pinpoint what was causing the problem. They had their playlist on shuffle as an alarm. A lengthy process of elimination pointed the finger at the popular alternative song.

It’s a strange phenomenon potentially caused by the song’s “Stop” not being backed by instrumentals. No other songs with “stop” in the lyrics are causing the same problem, as noted by Android Central.

Now, while Google has not responded to the amusing sequence of events, the Pixies apologized on Twitter for creating a classic song that can ruin your smartphone’s alarms.

Apple Music is getting a Liquid Glass makeover

The new logo debuts next week with iOS 27.2.

Apple Music is getting a revamp. In one of the tamer things going on with the brand today, Apple has introduced a new design language for its native music streaming platform.

In the midst of all the hubbub surrounding the iPhone Duo, Apple released a change in the visual identity of Apple Music. Rather than a static logo, the platform’s newest evolution offers a dynamic look that melds Liquid Glass and the power of sound together.

Confirmed through a behind-the-scenes video, Apple says that the new aesthetic was made with practical effects. Music producer Fred Again and NEST Acoustics submerged the platform’s logo in a tank of mineral oil and creating ripples with sound. The new language matches well with the chrome aesthetic typical of today’s trends and… well, Liquid Glass, of course.

Apple says that the more ripple-filled version will play before longer content like concert recordings (similar to Netflix’s startup stinger). Meanwhile, a black-and-white version will replace the app’s icon currently colored red and white. Current previews show off a simple logo, but it’s unknown whether Apple is adding a but more elements when the final version drops.

The updated version will debut for users after next week’s iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 updates.
