HONOR debuts HONOR Magic Vs, HONOR 80 Series
State-of-the-art smartphones?
HONOR has just announced the launch of the HONOR Magic Vs and the HONOR 80 series in China.
State-of-the-art foldable: HONOR Magic Vs
The HONOR Magic Vs debuts a revolutionary hinge design. It’s exceptionally slim (12.9mm thin) and lightweight (261g), knocking down the title for the lightest foldable smartphone to date. Despite the sexy design, it’s beefed with a 5000mAh battery, capable of 66W fast charging support. It’s expected to fully juice up the Magic Vs to 100 percent in just 46 minutes.
It also features a symmetrical design, folding without a gap and delivering a creaseless display when opened. With a stronger hinge and aerospace-grade materials, the HONOR Magic Vs is expected to withstand over 400,000 folds.
Better hardware
Taking the benchmarks further, the HONOR Magic Vs sports a 6.45-inch display when folded, and a 7.9-inch internal display when unfolded. The large screen real estate uses a 21:9 aspect ratio, with support of 100% DCI-P3 color gamut — delivering up to 1.07 billion colors. It also has a screen refresh rate of up to 120Hz that works seamlessly with eye-comfort solutions.
Camera-wise, it features a triple-camera system comprising a 54-megapixel IMX800 main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens and macro camera, and an 8-megapixel optical zoom.
Qualcomm’s support
The HONOR Magic Vs is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, equipped with 8GB or 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage for optimal flagship performance. It also comes with a Dual TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) Security System co-developed with Qualcomm. The system offers hardware-level protection, ensuring enhanced privacy and security.
The HONOR Magic Vs runs the latest MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 12.
New vlogging companion: HONOR 80
HONOR also introduced the successor to the HONOR 70 lineup — the HONOR 80 and the HONOR 80 Pro. The new lineup introduces the first AI Vlog Master feature that helps identify shooting scenarios. It recommends the best mode for shooting including Macro, Night, Portrait, Solo Cut, Multi-Video, and HDR video.
It also enhances image processing to deliver vivid images. For an exceptional photography experience, the HONOR 80 series sports a 160-megapixel ultra-clear main camera with a large 1/1.56-inch sensor. It comes with a binned 2.24µm pixel for more light.
The HONOR 80 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and runs on the latest Magic OS 7.0. It also sports a 4,800mAh battery capacity.
Price, availability
The HONOR Magic Vs comes in three colors: Orange, Cyan, and Black. It will be available to pre-order in China for 7,499 RMB.
Meanwhile, the HONOR 80 series comes in Ripple Blue, Sunrise Pink, Emerald Green, and Midnight Black. It will be available for pre-order in China for 2,699 RMB.
Both devices are available for pre-order starting November 23, 2022.
The price of technology isn’t fun these days. Because of the ongoing RAM shortage wrought by AI, companies across the industry are raising the prices of their products. Some, however, are still willing to shoulder the burden for their customers. Unfortunately, Qualcomm is soon leaving that list.
As reported by Bloomberg, Qualcomm will raise the prices of its products starting in September. Though the exact figure is unknown, the company did confirm that it’s in the double digits, percentage-wise. According to them, they can no longer shoulder the costs for its customers.
If you’re just a regular user, Qualcomm’s prices might not mean much for you. After all, the chipmaker doesn’t make phones of its own.
That said, Qualcomm is still one of the biggest suppliers for smartphone chipsets, including those that Samsung uses. Pushing the burden from chipsets to phone manufacturers reduces one more buffer against costs being ultimately pushed to consumers.
All things considered, Samsung managed to keep its prices hikes relatively low with the latest batch of foldables. However, with chips getting more price increases, it’s still within the realm of possibility that Samsung will also increase the price of its smartphones. The same can be said for any Qualcomm-powered smartphone available today.
The newly-launched Samsung Galaxy Z8 series is now available via Smart Postpaid and Smart Infinity. Pre-orders for Samsung’s latest foldables are available from July 22 to August 13.
Pre-ordering will allow customers to get exclusive storage upgrades, trade-in savings, and flexible payment options. Plus, they can get three months of complimentary Samsung Care+.

OPPO has confirmed that the Reno16 Series 5G is coming soon to the Philippines.
The upcoming smartphone series will introduce the company’s new Pocket Studio imaging experience alongside OPPO Bubble with Camera Remote View. The launch also continues OPPO’s partnership with K-pop girl group BABYMONSTER, the brand’s global ambassadors.
Pocket Studio puts the focus on photography
OPPO positions the Reno16 Series 5G as a camera-first smartphone. The series features a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide selfie camera, and Dual View Video for capturing photos and videos from multiple perspectives.
The company says these upgrades are designed to make mobile photography and content creation more versatile. Users can capture wide group selfies, detailed portraits, and creative videos without carrying dedicated camera gear.
OPPO Bubble brings remote camera controls
A standout feature is OPPO Bubble with Camera Remote View.
The new feature lets users pair the Reno16 Series 5G with compatible OPPO devices. From there, they can preview the camera feed remotely and trigger the shutter wirelessly.
This also allows users to frame selfies and group photos using the phone’s rear cameras while viewing the composition from another device. OPPO says the feature makes it easier to capture everyone in the frame without relying on timers.
Coming soon
The OPPO Reno16 Series 5G will arrive in the Philippines soon.
OPPO has yet to announce the official launch date, pricing, and local availability. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
