Huawei releases first look at Mate XT, the first tri-folding phone
Launch is on September 10
How do you upstage Apple on the day of its biggest annual event? Huawei’s solution is to offer a sneak preview of its most exciting smartphone to date. On Weibo, the company shared the first official image of the upcoming Mate XT.
Recently, Huawei’s Richard Yu was spotted using an unknown tri-folding smartphone a couple of times. It was also the first time we’ve seen a form factor out in the wild. Soon after the two photos surfaced, Huawei confirmed that the first tri-folding smartphone is indeed coming, and it’s coming fast. The official launch is on September 10, only a day after Apple’s iPhone 16 launch.
Now, a few days before the launch, Huawei shared the official photo of the Mate XT. As seen in the few photos online, the smartphone will come with two hinges, enabling a tri-folding mechanism. It will also have sides shining in brilliant gold. The whole rear is also covered in vegan leather. This looks like a premium device.
The camera island is also sizable, mimicking the huge peepers found on the Mate series. You can see the XMAGE branding right in the middle.
A few sources from China have also revealed that the Mate XT will come in two variants (in China, at least): 16GB with 512GB storage and 16GB with 1TB of storage.
The Huawei Mate XT is only a day away. Given how revolutionary the form factor is, it’s likely that only China will see the device for now. Regardless, we’re betting that it’s worth the wait.
