Vibration alerts are meant to be discreet. However, if your phone is on a hard surface, the formerly gentle buzz can turn into a jump scare. Now, as part of the ongoing developments for Android 15, Google is experimenting with a new feature called Adaptive Vibration.

Earlier this week, I/O 2024 introduced a host of features coming to Android 15. The most notable of which is an easier way to secure a device after it’s stolen. Days after the conference, the company is still introducing more features coming to this year’s major update.

As the name suggests, Adaptive Vibration will automatically adjust your phone’s vibration strength. Of course, even without the update, you can already manually adjust the strength per notification. In that way, you can easily tell what you’re getting, based on the strength of the vibration.

Adaptive Vibration works differently. The feature will use the phone’s microphone and other sensors to automatically determine the perfect vibration strength for where it is. For example, the phone will lower the strength if it detects that it’s on a table. Likewise, it will increase the strength if it’s on a soft couch.

To be clear, this feature is different from adaptive alert vibration. The latter turns down vibration strength if the phone is facing up. Adaptive Vibration, on the other hand, uses more context to determine strength.

The feature debuted in Android 15 Beta 2. Only testers will have access to the feature for now.

The HONOR Magic6 Pro and HONOR Magic V2 have become the first devices to receive the Android 15 Beta 1 update. The program offers developers early access to the latest Android updates, allowing them to test out new features and enhance the compatibility of apps on the two flagship HONOR smartphones.

Android 15 promises users enhanced security and privacy, optimized device resource management, and experience optimization.

Optimized privacy, security

With Android 15, users get greater control in a more secure device environment. It introduces an SDK sandbox, which allows services to be run in a sandbox. This prevents third-party apps from collecting private user data.

And to further enhance the user privacy experience, Android 15 introduces an enhanced Privacy Indicator with a new permissions management portal where users will be more aware of the status of their privacy protection when managing permissions such as camera or microphone.

Performance and power enhancement

Moreover, Android 15 continues to refine how power-intensive apps interact with the device’s power system. This is through the Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF), helping the device respond better to demands on GPU, CPU, and cooling system. This improvement will benefit users who enjoy gaming, even as the device gets better battery efficiency. It will also help long-running background tasks to run energy efficiently.

Android 15 is also working on optimizing photo shooting via social media apps by incorporating controlling flash intensity. Developers can also use Android APIs, tools and resources provided by Google to further optimize on more personalized user scenarios.

Android 15 Beta 1

Android 15 Beta 1 will allow HONOR’s developers to improve the compatibility and development of applications for the next version of Android. The HONOR Magic6 Pro, of course, is known for its Falcon Camera system. Meanwhile, the HONOR Magic V2 boasts of a 9.9mm thickness, breaking the boundary between bar and foldable phones. Both phones are guaranteed four major MagicOS updates and five years of security updates for global users.

Last week, we went to China to unbox the new Huawei Pura 70 Pro.

Today, we’re going up close and personal with Huawei’s latest flagship.What makes this photography-focused phone tick?

First of all, it’s not the P70 series anymore. Pura represents a new chapter for Huawei. It’s more than a rebranding for them. And all of it starts with the new forward symbol design.

First thing you might notice is the triangular camera island. You don’t have a gigantic circle in the middle or a traditional top-left island. It’s definitely unique. A few people already came up to me to ask where I got this phone.

Plus, just a short aside: A friend of mine pointed out how it can rest comfortably on your fingers. If you have small hands like mine (and want to avoid the pinky dent), the design is just perfect.

Now, what’s actually inside the forward design? Here’s a run-down of the Pura 70 Pro’s three rear cameras. From the get-go, the XMAGE imaging system melds hardware and AI together. Even from simply pointing and shooting, you’re guaranteed great photos.

But the real gems are from when you really dig deep into the camera, such as the Super Macro mode. Or the Ultra Speed Snapshot mode when you’re shooting pets, kids, fast cars, and athletes. You can use the telephoto lens for really far shots. And finally, a Portrait mode for your next profile pic.

At this point, you can already expect a great camera from the Pura series. But, how about everyone’s burning question? Can you download your favorite apps? Yes! Huawei’s App Gallery actually allows you to download all you need for your day-to-day life. Including Google apps!

That’s not all. EMUI 14.2 has a lot of AI-powered goodies. Check out this interactive wallpaper. It uses eye tracking to move the ball. When your eye lands on the ball, it swings to the other side. It’s so mesmerizing.

It’s also using the same technology for AI Privacy View. If the phone detects that you’re not the one holding it, it hides important notifications for that extra layer of privacy.Air gestures detect hand movements so you can control the phone even from afar.

How about performance, though? With a new Kirin chipset, it can handle a lot of the things you throw at it. From watching movies to playing games. Finally, the Pura 70 Pro has a 5050mAh battery. It’s definitely enough to get you through a day of regular to heavy use.

But, just in case, it supports 100W SuperCharge. You can juice up to 20 percent in just 5 minutes. On the flipside, it also supports 20W reverse wireless charging, if you need to power something else up.

There’s a reason why the Pura series has a legacy in smartphone photography. The Pura 70 Pro brings Huawei that much closer to the top again.
