NIU’s KQi Air is the lightest electric scooters for your commute

Made with carbon fiber

Published

on

With traffic nowadays, cars aren’t the best ways to traverse the metro anymore. If you’re looking for alternative ways to get around town, scooters remain a viable option. At IFA Berlin 2023, NIU unveiled an incredibly light electric scooter for today’s urban commuter.

The KQi Air series is built for micromobility. The two models — KQi Air and KQi Air X — weigh only around 26lbs. Despite how light they are, they are made with carbon fiber for enhanced durability. Whereas the KQi Air has a 70-30 ratio of carbon fiber and magnesium, the KQi Air X (built with a matte finish) is 100 percent carbon fiber.

For distance, both models have a top speed of 20mph (or around 32 km/h). They have a range of 31 miles (or a bit less than 50 kilometers). The 9.5-inch pneumatic tubeless tires can easily go through most obstacles you’ll find in an urban landscape. Plus, dual disc brakes ensure effective stopping power.

For technology, the series comes with NIU’s usual touchless unlocking methods. They come with an NFC card so users can unlock their scooter with just a tap. Alternatively, users can use Bluetooth or the traditional NIU app. Users can also remotely trigger a loud alarm to prevent theft.

Now, the NIU app offers a lot of feature for commuters. It allows users to customize starting speed, acceleration, top speed, and regenerative braking. The last one can extend the scooter’s range by up to 62 miles in a single year.

The KQi Air series will start its pre-sale on September 19. The regular model — available in red or silver — will cost US$ 1,399. Meanwhile, the Air X — available in gold — will cost US$ 1,799.

HONOR V Purse showcased at IFA 2023

Most stylish concept foldable?

Published

HONOR V Purse

For years, smartphone manufacturers have done their best to blend style and high fashion with their top-of-the-line devices. At IFA 2023, HONOR looks to do the same by showcasing the HONOR V Purse.

To be clear, this is strictly a concept for now. HONOR believes the V Purse “reimagines a foldable smartphone as a wearable, fashion-forward purse, offering endless possibilities for style and self-expression.”

HONOR CEO George Zhao describes the “phone to purse” gadget as their effort to explore “sustainable solutions that leverage emerging foldable technology to empower creativity and shape tomorrow’s lifestyle.”

HONOR V Purse

What it does, essentially is allow for a multitude of AODs or always on displays to be customizable to match whatever look you’re going for. HONOR likes to call it a “phy-gital fashion statement” though we have doubts that term is gonna fly.

The AODs range from luxury-bag looking designs to ones that you can interact with. Thanks to its internal gyroscope, the HONOR V Purse can sense motion and gravity. It then reflects this in the AOD wallpaper.

On select themes, design elements such as chains, feathers or tassels move and sway across the screen as you walk. It recreates the detail and craftsmanship of a real handbag. Overall, it seems like a nice ice-breaker for those awkward moments at high-society parties.

HONOR says they are opening up the API interface that allows designers to call sensors like gyroscope, touch or ambient light sensor.

Sustainability angle?

HONOR says other than being fashion forward, the HONOR V Purse was made with sustainability in mind. Specifically, they’re fighting back against fast fashion.

The company says of the 100 billion garments produced each year, 92 million tons end up in landfills. Their angle is that the HONOR V Purse’s customizable AODs make it a versatile fashion piece. The bag-style straps and chains can be interchanged to fit various looks.

Looks familiar?

If you’re thinking that the HONOR V Purse looks familiar, that’s likely because it’s simply a reimaigned Huawei Mate Xs 2. Yes, despite the HONOR’s insistence that they’re independent from HUAWEI, the traces continue to show themselves.

HONOR Magic V2 going global

As mentioned previously, IFA 2023 also served as the global launch of the HONOR Magic V2 which was first announced in China.
