MediaTek launches Dimensity 700 5G for budget-friendly phones
Coming soon to a phone near you
MediaTek at its Executive Virtual Summit 2020 unveiled the Dimensity 700 as the latest 7nm 5G chipset that’s designed for “mass-market” phones. The company announced the Dimensity 720 SoC just three months ago for the midrange segment and is now back with a more pocket-friendly option.
While 5G connectivity is at the core of MediaTek’s ambition, it has also launched two new processors for Chromebooks — the MT8195 and the MT8192. MediaTek also teased it’s working on a 6nm processor for smartphones and includes Cortex-A78 cores.
The Dimensity 700’s modem supports carrier aggregation, dual SIM support, dual standby, and VoNR. To save power, it also gets global 5G NR band support and MediaTek’s “UltraSave” technology.
The processor consists of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. It can be connected to 12GB of RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. For graphics, a Mali-G57 GPU is present and can deliver 90Hz of refresh rate with Full HD+ resolution.
While video recording is limited to Full HD resolution, the phone can boast a 64-megapixel sensor along with various additions like multi-frame noise reduction and several AI enhancements.
Finally, the chip supports voice assistants from global brands such as Alibaba, Amazon, Baidu, Google, and Tencent. MediaTek will be bringing the Dimensity 700 SoC to the market in the first quarter of 2021. Most importantly, the processor is expected to power phones for under US$ 250.
