Onimusha: Way of the Sword to launch this September; demo and pre-orders open
Fresh entry to classic samurai title draws close to release
Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch globally on September 25. A playable demo and pre-orders are both available now for this all-new entry in the long-dormant Japanese swordplay action series.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the first brand-new franchise installment in 20 years. It will release simultaneously across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic Games, Windows).
June 10 update: The title will also release on Nintendo Switch 2, as announced by Capcom at Nintendo Direct.
The dark fantasy adventure follows Miyamoto Musashi, a young samurai whose legend is etched in Japanese history, as he battles monstrous Genma forces invading early Edo-period Kyoto.
Armed with the mystical Oni Gauntlet, players will experience a tense back-and-forth duel mechanic that balances deep strategy with satisfying, authentic steel-on-steel action.
Pre-orders
Players can choose from the game’s Standard (Physical and Digital), Deluxe (Digital), and Premium deluxe Editions.
The first edition includes just the base game, while the latter two includes their distinct kits. Specially curated DLCs feature an exclusive selection of charms, cosmetic items to customize Musashi and select character’s appearances, and more.
Exclusive Switch 2 motion controls
For players planning to pick up the title on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware, Capcom released a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 reveal trailer showing off platform-exclusive features.
Switch 2 players can get closer to the action by utilizing optional motion controls. This input method wields the new Joy-Con 2 controllers to offer an intuitive, physical way to swing Musashi’s blade and aim his bow in combat.
You can check out the Switch 2 reveal trailer below:
Master the blade with deep combat mechanics
Capcom’s latest trailer for the title also gave a detailed look at the combat mechanics and an introduction to Mount Oe. This grand mountain range in Kyoto steeped in dark folklore is where Musashi faces off against the formidable Shuten Doji, a massive Genma kingpin, alongside terrifying underworld fiends known as the Oboro Garasu.
To survive these threats, players must master Musashi’s diverse array of combat abilities:
-
Reflex Combo: Successfully chaining together Reflex Dodges against incoming enemy attacks builds Musashi’s focus, allowing players to unleash a devastating counter-offensive.
-
Oni Strength: Harnessing the supernatural power of the Oni Gauntlet allows players to execute heavy, brute-force strikes to shatter enemy guards and break open hidden obstacles during exploration.
-
Oni Agility: Wielding explosive quickness allows Musashi to execute superhuman feats of mobility, including wall-running across specific surfaces to outmaneuver foes and access hard-to-reach areas.
Play the free opening chapter today
Ahead of the September launch, a playable demo is live starting today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games. The demo lets players hack and slash their way through the iconic Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage, culminating in a boss fight against Musashi’s formidable rival, Sasaki Ganryu.
While save data will not carry over to the final retail build, players who keep a demo save file on their system will unlock the exclusive Kubi Akari Charm in the final game, which grants beneficial status effects and perks to Musashi.

Call of Duty, Aston Martin unveil Dreadnought for Modern Warfare 4
A mobile fortress available to locate in key areas
Call of Duty and Aston Martin revealed the Aston Martin Dreadnought, a bespoke, in-game SUV concept specially created for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Developed by Aston Martin’s design team in collaboration with the game’s developers and publishers, the Dreadnought pairs supercar-level performance and a full-blooded V12 engine with a military-grade armored exterior.
This configuration makes it the most aggressive all-wheel drive vehicle in the title.
Built as a mobile fortress rather than a joyride, it is designed to push objectives, save teammates under fire, and drive straight through contested ground while its armor plating absorbs heavy incoming damage.
Ground in the physics of the Modern Warfare universe, the unapologetic, uncompromising tactical SUV delivers a stunning exploration of extreme visual language. At the same time, it brings an engaging and dynamic player experience.
Its striking form has been imaged for elite tactical performance, with optimized aerodynamics and fully integrated digital command interfaces.
The exquisite design details emphasize the Dreadnought’s high luxury heritage. There’s the herringbone weave of the exterior carbon fiber, as well as the Oxford Tan leather dashboard, door panel details, and metallic gold gear lever.
Players will be able to locate the Dreadnought in key points of interest within both DMZ and Call of Duty: Warzone modes.
Fans got to see a full-size physical interpretation of the Dreadnought at Fanatics Fest NYC, ahead of its in-game debut on 23 October.
In other news, Call of Duty movie director and co-writer Peter Berg revealed that the film will be set in the Modern Warfare universe.

Most of the world’s PlayStations will be officially useless by 2028
PlayStation’s disastrous no-disc policy is now a lot worse than you thought.
Last week, we lamented the loss of the PlayStation disc. As we described, the loss isn’t just a major blow to nostalgia for aging gamers, but it also puts a huge question mark on game ownership. Well, there’s another wrinkle that the world is slowly realizing. By deleting physical discs, PlayStation has effectively blockaded their entire service from countries without an official online store.
If you haven’t heard, PlayStation is ceasing the production of physical discs for new games starting 2028. The console will become an all-digital platform. Now, we can blather on and on about how this sucks for ownership, but all gamers will still have access to games online at the very least. Right?
Wrong.
Not every country has an official PlayStation Store or the ability to create a PSN account. In fact, a staggering amount don’t; 121 countries (or 62 percent of the entire world) don’t have official access to the online storefront.
If you live in any of these countries, you’re likely familiar with some unofficial solutions: that is, setting your country elsewhere where the store exists. But, because it’s an unofficial solution, doing this is technically against PlayStation’s policies and can result in bans.
That being said, as noted by users on Reddit, this means that, on a very technical and legal level, these 121 countries will no longer be able to buy physical or digital games starting 2028. Because of a clarified policy, you can still play older games, but if you want to play the latest Call of Duty or NBA 2K, you are out of luck.
There’s no official list of affected countries, other than those collated by others manually. But if you’ve never been able to set your own country on the PlayStation Network, you’re a part of it.
