Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is a smartphone game changer

The phone of the future?

Published

Earlier this week, Huawei reps told GadgetMatch that a Porsche Design Mate RS was being unveiled at the P20 launch. But, nothing could’ve prepared us for the awesomeness of this new device.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is different from the P20 and P20 Pro models released. It features a curved 6-inch OLED screen and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It’s also the very first Huawei phone that has quick wireless charging. Let those features sink in for a minute.

A high-end Kirin 970 processor powers this handset — assurance that this phone is as powerful as it can get. It runs on Huawei’s EMUI 8.1 on Android 8.1. This limited edition device is equipped with the same three cameras as the P20 Pro — yes, those cameras that just topped the DxOMark charts: a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, a 20-megapixel monochrome shooter, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. It also has yet another fingerprint scanner on its back plus 4000mAh battery capacity.

The phone comes in Black or Red; however, the latter version is only available in China.

A phone this power-packed will cost you. The version with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage will cost you EUR 1,695 and the 6GB and 512GB variant will cost a whopping EUR 2,095. The phone will be available starting April 12.

This is not the first time a special edition Porsche Design phone was launched alongside new Huawei releases. There were also respective Porsche Design models unveiled at the Mate 9 and the Mate 10 launches. These remarkable releases are usually the decked out devices, so it’s not surprising that this phone is such a powerhouse.

Polaroid says, enjoy the beach before AI ruins it

“We know what we stand to lose if we don’t protect it.”

Tongue-in-cheek marketing is a soothing balm for a world where false promises are more often advertised. But, what happens when those tongue-in-cheek jokes strike a nerve and make you think, “maybe this isn’t a joke anymore”? Polaroid, a huge proponent of analog technology, has put up such a billboard to enjoy the beach “before the data centers drink it all up.”

Right in front of Coney Island (and right in time for summer), Polaroid has a simple message: “Go jump in the water before the data centers drink it all up.”

Though funny by itself, the message plays on an ongoing fear that today’s data centers, built for AI, have such a high water requirement that each query takes up gallons every time. This is, of course, slightly hyperbolic, but data centers are indeed exerting a lot of pressure on their area’s resources. They take a lot of water for cooling and electricity to keep open.

In a statement, Polaroid says that they’re not anti-digital. Rather, “we know we have to live alongside it, but we’re deeply pro-human and know what humanity gives us. And we know what we stand to lose if we don’t protect it. That’s a fight worth fighting,” says Polaroid’s creative director Patricia Varella, via LBB.

Now, this isn’t a completely altruistic ad. It’s still advertising the new Go Generation 3. Still, if you’re looking for a product to go alongside today’s shifting sentiments against AI, a Polaroid might be it.

PLDT Home has joined forces with GCash to integrate Fiber Prepaid reloads directly into the GCash GLoad platform.

The partnership aims to make high-speed home connectivity significantly more accessible and budget-friendly for Filipino households. In the process, transactions come with exclusive rewards, app-based discounts, and more offers.

PLDT Home originally introduced its Fiber Prepaid lineup to cater to students, remote workers, and small business owners who require robust internet speeds but prefer to avoid rigid monthly lock-in contracts.

Integrating reloads via the GCash app gives users even more flexibility when it comes to payments, given a secure and cashless ecosystem.

The platform lets users tailor their internet usage to their actual budget. For instance, the entry-level PLDT Home Fiber Prepaid package starts at PhP 999.

This comes bundled with 30 days of unlimited internet at speeds of up to 50 Mbps. Beyond the base tier, customers can freely opt for flexible top-ups ranging from a single day up to a full 365-day package, with speeds topping out at a blazing 300 Mbps.

To start loading and claiming exclusive perks, users can simply head over to the GLoad section within their active GCash app.

PC and handheld gamers can officially skip the wait, as AMD has launched its FSR 4.1 upscaling technology for Radeon RX 7000 series (RDNA 3) GPUs.

Computing and Graphics Group Senior Vice President and GM Jack Huynh made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter). This development brings machine learning powered gaming to millions of players across more than 300 games.

By downloading the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 driver, users can unlock the new AI upscaling suite on existing RX 7000 series desktop graphics cards.

(The driver can be downloaded here.)

The update drastically sharpens image reconstruction, delivers far superior temporal stability, and keeps motion ghosting to an absolute minimum. That’s across a massive library of supported titles.

Beyond optimized frame rates out of the gate for those two blockbusters, the release packs vital architecture stability improvements and bug fixes for the broader Radeon ecosystem.

Huynh added that AMD is actively engineering lightweight machine learning models to expand FSR 4.1 optimizations to a wider base of gamers. More details are to come.

Moreover, the driver for the FSR 4.1 upscaling technology will deliver day-one support for two highly anticipated releases: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations.

if you are wielding an RDNA 3 desktop rig or an RDNA 3-powered handheld, like the ROG Ally X or Lenovo Legion GO, simply open up the AMD Software suite, get the update, and test the new AI tech.
