Samsung commits to 3 years of Android updates
Is your Samsung device part of the list?
An important consideration oftentimes overlooked when buying a smartphone is how many software updates your phone is going to get.
Will it still be able to run the latest version of Android a few years down the line?
The harsh reality is that the Android smartphone industry doesn’t have a good track record. While Apple promises at least 5, among Android phones, 2 years is considered a good number.
Samsung hopes to change this by committing to at least 3 generations of OS updates for its midrange and premium devices in an effort to prolong the life span of their devices.
Covered in the guarantee are the following devices:
- Galaxy S series: Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, S20+ 5G, S20 5G, in addition to S10 5G, S10+, S10, S10e, S10 Lite and upcoming S series devices.
- Galaxy Note series: Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G, Note20 5G, Note10+ 5G, Note10+, Note10, and upcoming Note series devices
- Galaxy Foldable devices: Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Z Flip 5G, Z Flip, Fold and upcoming Z series devices
- Galaxy A series: Galaxy A71 5G, A71, A51 5G, A51, and select upcoming A series devices
- Tablets: Galaxy Tab S7+ 5G, Tab S7+, Tab S7 5G, Tab S7, Tab S6 5G, Tab S6, Tab S6 Lite and upcoming Tab S series devices
Devices launched this year that come with Android 10 out of the box will get at least Android 11, 12 and 13.
