Samsung joins Google in the fight against Apple’s iMessage

#GetTheMessage

Google has been the main proponent of its #GetTheMessage campaign. Through several ads spread throughout the past months, the company is pushing Apple to adopt RCS as a messaging standard. Now, Google isn’t alone. Samsung has joined the clamor against Apple’s exclusivity.

This week, Samsung released a 20-second clip on YouTube. The clip is simple: A distraught couple worries about their future because their parents don’t want them to be together. The exchange ends with “What did green ever do to them? We’re bubbles too.”

Though the clip seems innocuous, the clip’s title lays all of Samsung’s cards down. The title reads: “Green bubbles and blue bubbles want to be together. Help Apple #GetTheMessage.”

As with Google, Samsung is directly telling Apple to adopt RCS as a standard. Unfortunately, Apple is clearly against the idea of bridging the gap between them and other brands. In an interview with the media, Tim Cook infamously told an Android user to just get an iPhone.

Google’s RCS is more than just a differently colored bubble. The standard is supposed to replace SMS, allowing smartphones to interact with each other without the need for a network. iMessage accomplishes the same convenience but is gated for Apple users. As such, interactions between Apple and Android users currently rely on less secure and more inconvenient methods of communication.

On the surface, the fight for RCS is about keeping phones together. However, on a deeper level, it’s about a higher standard of security for all smartphones users, regardless of brand.

Samsung will reportedly launch a Galaxy Z Slide next year

What will the Slide look like?

After Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, it’s safe to say that the foldable wars are finally on. Apple and Android fans are now drawing the battle lines between their respective devices. Now, for the smartphone makers themselves, it’s time for Samsung to prepare its next salvo. Right on cue, a new leak has hinted that the South Korean brand is preparing for its most extensive foldable lineup next year, including a mysterious device called the Galaxy Z Slide.

Based on a new leak on X, Samsung is reportedly launching a total of six foldable devices next year. Naturally, three of those are the next iterations of Samsung’s main foldable lineup: Galaxy Z Fold9, Fold9 Ultra, and Flip9.

A fourth device, however, teases a sequel to the Galaxy Z TriFold. Earlier this year, Samsung launched its first tri-fold device. Although, despite the hype, the TriFold never really made it as a consumer-ready device, opting instead for a limited release for early adopters. A second release might mean that Samsung is ready to unleash a friendlier device next year, which the leak claims will be the first one out the gate.

Now, the other two releases are more of a mystery. For one, Samsung is allegedly launching a Galaxy Z Fold9 Pro, presumably a middle ground between the passport-style and the book-style foldable.

Finally, the sixth device (and arguably the most mysterious) is something called the Galaxy Z Slide. If true, the Slide will likely introduce an all-new form factor for the lineup. If anything, though, we know that Samsung has been experimenting with sliding screens. Is this what the Slide will look like?

Apple is hosting another “Pro” event this October

The event is called “Pro and Tell”.

Apple CEO John Ternus was not kidding when he said his company is getting more regular releases during his tenure. Now, so soon after their last event, Ternus is once again gearing up for yet another event. On October 28, Apple is holding an event called “Pro and Tell.”

As with Apple’s other events, the event’s name is supposed to give a hint as to what’s coming on October 28. However, “Pro and Tell” is quite a puzzle, especially since the brand already launched the iPhone 18 Pro duo just las month. What other Pro devices is Apple hatching?

So far, the brand still has a few segments untouched this year. Given the naming, this event might see the debuts of a new MacBook and a new iPad. Both of which, after all, have Pro devices.

For context, Apple has just finished its “Welcome Home” event a few weeks ago, unveiling their new home collection. Before that, the brand launched the iPhone 18 Pro series and the iPhone Duo. Since starting his term, Ternus has turned the formerly quiet Apple into one of the most active brands in the tech space, hosting three events in quick succession.

Besides those events, Apple is still set to release the iPhone Duo later this month. The brand isn’t done yet.

Apple reveals iPhone Duo’s 4883mAh battery

Is it enough for you?

When you get your hands on a foldable phone, you should be able to expect a large battery. After all, powering two screens takes some juice. The numbers, however, might not be what you’d expect. Today, an official energy label has confirmed that the newest entry in the foldable space, the iPhone Duo, touts only a 4883mAh battery.

As required by Europe, new smartphones have to publish their information for transparency. Apple is no different. In its label for the iPhone Duo, the company listed 4883mAh as the official capacity of its very first foldable phone. Previous rumors have likewise speculated that the device will have two battery cells totalling the above rating.

If we’re talking relative capacity, a sub-5000mAh battery feels too low for such a big device. But does that mean that users will run into battery issues? Right now, it’s too early to tell.

Despite the size, the device itself might be efficient when it comes to managing battery life. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has a 5000mAh battery but still offers impressive battery life for all-day use. And besides, the iPhone Duo’s folded screen is much smaller than other phones. Since users will likely stick with the smaller screen most of the time, the smaller battery should still last the whole day.
