Samsung might not discontinue the Galaxy Note after all

An official confirms

For the past few months, several rumors teased the supposed discontinuation of the Galaxy Note series next year. After yesterday’s S Pen announcement, the Galaxy Note’s end seemed almost certain. Now, in a surprise leak, Samsung might not discontinue the Galaxy Note after all.

According to South Korean outlet Yonhap, Samsung is officially denying rumors of the premium series’ discontinuation. Well, secretly, at least. Specifically, an anonymous source told the news source that Samsung is still planning for a yearly phablet release for next year.

Further, the same source denies speculation that yesterday’s message pertains to the Galaxy Note. Yesterday, Samsung mobile chief TM Roh said that some of the best Galaxy Note features will come to other lineups. Though the announcement likely points to the Galaxy S21 series, it was also easy to speculate that the crossover will mean the end for the iconic phablet series. Apparently, it’s not true.

Besides the Galaxy Note fiasco, more rumors have also surfaced about the Galaxy S21 series, including a new processor as confirmed yesterday. With all the rumors coming out, Samsung is building a thriving ecosystem for next year. The company is expected to launch the upcoming Galaxy S21 series sometime in January.

OnePlus 12 officially revealed in new teasers

First look and a few specs included

The year has one last trick up its sleeve. If you’re still debating on getting a new smartphone for Christmas, OnePlus is about to make your internal debates even more difficult. Ahead of the flagship’s launch next month, the upcoming OnePlus 12 has officially popped up in a new series of teasers.

Today, OnePlus unveiled new images and a teaser video for the OnePlus 12 on YouTube and on Weibo. On their own, the teasers reveal only a couple of details about the new flagship.

For one, the series will come in three different colors: black, white, and green. While the first two colors offer the standard fare for smartphone designs, the green variant features a marble-like texture.

Additionally, users might have noticed that the OnePlus 12 has a different layout for the popular Alert Slider — OnePlus’s dedicated slider to switch between mute, vibrate, and loud. Instead of on the right, the flagship will have the slider on the left side of the phone. According to the company, the switch was done to accommodate a new antenna aimed to reduce latency during gaming sessions.

Besides the teasers, OnePlus has reportedly confirmed (via Yahoo! Hong Kong) that the flagship will feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 2K screen. For its cameras, it will have a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 main sensor and a 64-megapixel telephoto sensor.

The stage is seemingly more than set for the OnePlus 12’s launch next month. The flagship is scheduled to launch in China on December 5. A global launch will follow on December 15.
