Leaked store listing reveals the Samsung SmartTag 2

Including design and price

The memorable AirTag controversy has come and gone. Though the device isn’t as popular right now, trackers still have their uses in the world. As such, competition can still be fierce. Samsung is reportedly updating its SmartTag to compete better with other trackers in the industry.

Buoyed by a few rumors as of late, the upcoming SmartTag 2 suddenly popped up in a store listing on MobileFun. More than specs, the listing also reveals the updated design. In terms of uniqueness, the design deviates quite a bit from other trackers in the market — even from its own predecessor.

Unlike the discreet chip-like shape of other trackers, the purported SmartTag 2 has a much larger loop. Unfortunately, the images don’t really show an accurate size comparison. It does look like you can put a finger through the hole, though. Ideally, users might be able to loop through a bag’s handle, for example, trading in subtlety for convenience.

In terms of specs, the SmartTag 2 will reportedly sport a more advanced Bluetooth 5.3 standard. It might also have UWB support. With both connectivity standards in the bag, the new model might have better battery life.

The listing also references the SmartThings Find network. On paper, it looks much like Google’s Find My Device or Apple’s Find My. Users can track where their tagged items are through the SmartThings app.

According to the listing, the SmartTag 2 will come in Black or White. It will retail for GBP 42.99. However, take note that Samsung has not officially announced the product yet, so things might still change.
