Smart Postpaid will soon charge PhP 2/MB for mobile data

Smart Postpaid subscribers will soon see a change on their internet charges as the telco company shifts its charging scheme from time to volume-based rates.

Starting November 28, Smart Communications is “enhancing” its data rate to PhP 2 per megabyte (MB) of data used from the previous PhP 5 for every 15 minutes of usage. This is posted on their support site as their upcoming default data rate.

Under the new scheme, once a postpaid user fully consumes their data allowance, they can opt for a data add-on plan or accept the new default mobile data rate. If so, the user will receive text notifications for going beyond a 500, 1,000, and 2,000 peso amount of data consumed with a limit of PhP 2,500.

Unfortunately, data speeds will be throttled down to 128 kilobits per second (128kbps) till the next billing period begins if you’ve reached the cap. It’s technically unlimited internet but at an extremely slow speed, and not to mention really expensive.

Pornhub: Filipinos love ‘romantic’ porn

Move over, Top 10 Gadgets of 2019! The most important annual review is here!

For the seventh year in a row, Pornhub has released its analytics for 2019. As always, the review is a treasure trove of insights on the world’s thirstiest habits. The analytics go through literally everything under the sun. (Including the battle royale game that porn viewers searched for: Apex Legends vs. Fortnite. Spoiler: Fortnite claimed more consistent viewers, but Apex Legends peaked higher at 357,701 searches on February 18.)

Of course, the more interesting question is: how did the Philippines fair this time around?

Depending on how you look at it, the Philippines performed a lot better! On the global rankings, the country ranked up two spots from yesteryear, nabbing the no. 8 spot ahead of Australia and Mexico.

However, Filipinos are spending slightly less time on the platform compared to previous years. Per visit, researchers dive into the watery depths for an average of 11 minutes and 19 seconds — 22 seconds less than last year. Still not a bad dive! Only Thailand gets wet longer, spending 11 minutes and 21 seconds on average.

Another point of Pinoy pride: the Philippines practices more open-minded equality with porn viewing. The country has the highest proportion of women mastering the art of self-love. Of all Filipino Pornhub users, 39 percent of which are female, contrasted to 61 percent male.

Also, 91 percent of Filipinos view Pornhub on their phones. Helpful tip: disconnect your phones from your house’s Bluetooth speakers first! You wouldn’t want to broadcast your New Year’s fireworks to everyone, right?

Now, for the meaty bits! Filipinos love Asians! In 2019, the country’s top five search terms are Pinay, hentai, Japanese, Pinoy, and Korean. Additionally, the top five trending searches are reverse missionary, locker room, perfect body, Korean uncensored, and romantic love making.

Surprise! Despite the country’s dominance in the porn rankings, Filipinos love getting more intimate before doing the dirty. Well, the Philippines takes the second-most time on the site. Maybe, Filipinos spend a huge chunk of the time getting to know the performers first. We don’t judge!

Microsoft unveils new logos for Windows

It’s been a while since Microsoft updated its designs. The current flat logo has existed since 2012 when the company launched Windows 8. After seven years, the dated design needs an update.

Right on cue, Microsoft has officially announced a hundred new logos for both its operating system and its apps. The redesign — officially titled Fluent Design — introduces richer colors and dynamic motion.

In contrast, the incumbent logo design spins off from yesteryear’s flat design. At the time of its launch, the minimalist design philosophy incorporated a pleasing consistency across the entire Microsoft ecosystem. After years of colorful, three-dimensional, and dysfunctional designs, the world needed a more uniform design to latch on to.

Now, the cycle begins anew. After years of uniformity, the world is ready to take dynamism back. According to Microsoft’s new Medium post, the redesign is a fluid combination of both consistency and innovation. It combines the familiar with something new. Unlike the static tenets of flat design, Fluent Design brings gradients back into the fold. The new logos are bolder, sexier, and more attractive to the eye.

Though still officially in development, the redesign has already launched silently through Microsoft Edge’s new logo. As reported before, the new logo burst forth from the browser’s unfortunate association with the dated Internet Explorer. The other logos range from essential icons to more optional software; from Documents to Microsoft Office.

The unveiling also hints at a new look for Windows’s own logo (pictured in the ribbon above). Whereas the current one has only a single shade of blue, the new logo has three shades. Though only a slight change, it reflects the redesign’s overall theme: incorporate the old with the new.

The redesign’s official launch is still forthcoming. Regardless, it’s a good look for the software.

Xbox Series X is Microsoft’s new console

With millions of eyes glued to the Game Awards, Microsoft took the opportunity to unveil their latest console. Formerly known as Project Scarlett, the gaming console now has an official name — Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X has a custom-designed CPU that’s based on AMD’s Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA Architecture. Speaking of CPU, that’s exactly what the console looks like. Despite it looking like most CPU Towers, the console can be positioned both vertically and horizontally.

Microsoft Xbox chief Phil Spencer claims the new console it will “deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way.” It’s also using an SSD which should boost load times. It’s also capable of 8K gaming with frame rates of up to 120 FPS as well as ray tracing.

Spencer confirmed with GameSpot that it the Xbox Series X is backwards compatible. It will support games you can play on the Xbox One and will also have support for accessories sold for earlier versions of the console.

There’s no word yet on exact pricing and availabilty but they did say it will come just ahead of the holiday shopping season in 2020. This puts it squarely around the time of the PlayStation 5’s release date. Exciting times ahead for console gamers!
