Mi 12 series could launch with Snapdragon 895, 200MP camera

The Snapdragon 895 could come sooner than usual

The Mi 12 series will continue the Chinese phone maker’s legacy in the premium segment. It’s expected to launch next year, ideally. However, there’s a tiny chance the phone debuts in 2021 before the year ends and shall sport Qualcomm’s brand new processor.

According to a leak by Ice Universe, the Mi 12 and Mi 12 Ultra shall come equipped with a Snapdragon 895 processor. The said chip hasn’t been officially announced yet, but as the name suggests, it’ll succeed last year’s Snapdragon 888. If true, the Mi 12 will be the first phone to sport Qualcomm’s latest chip.

Usually, Qualcomm shows off its latest chips at the beginning of December, and actual availability is after a few weeks. This time, the chipmaker is believed to be half a month ahead of schedule, resulting in an earlier release.

It will also indirectly speed up the availability of new phones as the primary component is releasing ahead of the conventional schedule. Of course, there is no certainty of this happening, and Xiaomi could well stick to its own timelines and launch the successor sometime in 2022.

The Mi 12 could also get a  200-megapixel camera sensor, although it has been argued that it could be reserved for the Ultra option. On the front, the flagship series is expected to sport an LTPO panel, which enables refresh rate technology ranging from one to 120Hz. The screen is also said to have 2K resolution.

The Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra may incorporate IP68 waterproof and dustproof, stereo dual speakers, multi-function NFC and infrared. For charging, the rumor mill currently revolves around 120W wired fast charging and 100W wireless.

Ice Universe further claims that the Snapdragon 895 will be seen in flagships launching in the first half of the second year. Qualcomm may then subsequently launch the Snapdragon 895+ SoC in June.

The iPhone 18 might sell out for an unexpected reason

The ongoing shortage might play a part in the phone selling out earlier than expected.

Published

An iPhone selling out is not news. Because of how popular the phones are, it’s within the realm of probability that Apple runs out of stock at some point. According to a new report, this year won’t be any different… but it’s for an entirely different reason.

First reported by analyst Tim Culpan, Apple is reportedly struggling to meet its demand for semiconductors for the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone. The ongoing memory shortage is cutting off Apple’s ability to deliver the required supply of smartphones in a timely fashion. The report even claims that TSMC, which helps produce the iPhone, is sitting on a shipment of processors, worth US$ 1 billion, that don’t have memory chips.

Now, Apple is still confident that it can weather the launch. However, if the shortage persists, the iPhone 18 generation will likely sell out much more quickly than expected.

It’s an interesting time for Apple to experience such a shortage. It’s been heavily rumored that the company will launch its very first foldable phone next month, creating a new market for the brand. Apple definitely wants this attempt to succeed after the tepid response to its last new product, the Vision Pro.
