NVIDIA Titan V breaks benchmarks and banks

Published

on

It wasn’t too long ago when everyone crowned the Titan Xp as the early graphics card champ of 2017. That reign didn’t last long, however, with the release of the even more benchmark-breaking Titan V.

NVIDIA is seriously calling this the “world’s most powerful GPU for the PC” and for good reason.

Based on the new Volta architecture, the Titan V is capable of 110 teraflops of raw horsepower through its 21.1 billion transistors. That’s nine times more powerful than its predecessor!

A lot of credit goes to NVIDIA’s Tensor Cores, which focus on deep learning to achieve the monstrous power. And because it’s based on a 12nm fabrication with Volta’s 12GB HBM2 memory subsystem, the Titan V is twice as efficient as the previous Pascal architecture-based cards.

So, can it run Crysis? Most definitely, but that’s not why this piece of hardware exists.

The Titan V’s primary purpose lies in artificial intelligence, deep learning, and high-performance computing. Users will have free access to NVIDIA’s AI software found on their GPU Cloud in order to maximize the card’s abilities.

Acquiring one is not cheap. The Titan V currently retails for US$ 2,999 and comes in the cool gold-and-black design you see above.

While this doesn’t feel like a serious consumer PC component with that price, the introduction of Volta is a sign of things to come for more affordable GPUs, such as the successors to the GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 series.
