The OPPO Find X9 Ultra is Galaxy S26 Ultra’s biggest enemy

The most extreme camera system in a smartphone so far

Published

on

Three weeks after the launch of the vivo X300 Ultra, there’s another “Ultra” flagship gleaming on the horizon.

The much-awaited (and much teased) OPPO Find X9 Ultra has finally reached the Eastern shores.

X-treme Cameras

On paper, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra packs the most extreme camera system in a smartphone so far.

First, it has a 200MP f/1.5 main camera based on the newer (and ginormous) Sony LYT-901 1/1.18-inch sensor. This also happens to be the same camera sensor used by the vivo X300 Ultra — just with a tighter 35mm focal length and slightly narrower f/1.85 lens opening.

Second, its 50MP f/2.0 ultra-wide lens with Sony’s 1/1.95-inch LYT-600 sensor.

But, what makes this camera system more extreme? It’s the inclusion of dual periscope telephoto lenses with larger sensors compared to its closest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Find X9 Ultra’s biggest accomplishment can be seen with its 200MP 3x periscope telephoto. This is based from OmniVision’s OV52A sensor at 1/1.28 inches.

GIF by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

The next periscope module is a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JNL 1/2.75-inch sensor. This second zoom shooter can capture 10x optically-zoomed shots, 20x “optical quality” snaps, all the way to 120x.

A dedicated camera button stays — now in the signature Hasselblad orange shade.

All in all, these are ultimate upgrades to the quad 50MP camera setup of last year’s OPPO Find X8 Ultra.

For video shooting, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra is capable of shooting up to 4K/120fps or 8K in 30fps. LOG Mode is also supported via OPPO’s O-Log2 with support for Custom 3D LUTs.

X-citing Partnership

The Find X9 Ultra’s massive camera module are all co-produced with Hasselblad — further solidifying the partnership between the Swedish camera brand and the Chinese phone maker.

To make things even more X-citing, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra has a special edition Hasselblad Earth Explorer Kit.

This optional camera kit consists of a massive 300mm LUMO telephoto kit lens, camera lens ring module, set of filters, adapters, and hood, pouch to house them all in, an embroidered Hasselblad lanyard.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Heck! Even a custom camera grip case reminiscent of Hasselblad’s very own X2D 100C Earth Explorer camera.

Speaking of, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra comes in the Tundra Umber colorway of the same earth-like hues and signature Hasselblad orange detailing.

GIF by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

If that isn’t your cup of tea, there are two more color options: Polar Glacier (white) and Canyon Orange. Albeit, the special grip case is only available in one color.

If the Hasselblad Kit already feels like an overkill, check out the TILTA KHRONOS Kit suited for videographers and aspiring filmmakers alike.

It’s a different set-up with follow-focus power handle, cooling back clip, ND filter adapter ring, side handle, and expansion dock.

X-quisite Flagship

Just like any 2026 flagship, the Find X9 Ultra runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC based on the 3nm process.

GIF by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

LPDDR5X memory choices are either  between 12- or 16GB while its UFS 4.1 internal storage now has a bigger 1TB option (the X8 Ultra has a 512GB limitation).

Its 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display has been improved too. Now, it has an even smoother 144Hz refresh rate with brightness as low as 1 nit.

Compared to the 6100mAh battery of its predecessor, the Find X9 Ultra has a boosted 7050mAh Si/C battery. It’s currently the largest capacity in any Ultra flagship slab so far.

However, wired and wireless charging speeds remain at 100W and 50W respectively.

X-plit Strategy

The Find X9 Ultra isn’t the only phone being launched.

Find X9s (Left), Find X9s Pro (Right)

OPPO aims for a split strategy this time by separately unveiling the Find X9s Pro and Find X9s for the Chinese and global markets respectively. JSYK, these are two different phone models.

OPPO adds an iPhone-like “Camera Plateau” cutout to Find X9 Pro’s camera system — highlighting various earth-like textures. That system includes dual 200MP Hasselblad cameras (main and telephoto). On the other hand, the ultra-wide camera is capped at 50MP.

Meanwhile, the Find X9s borrows the same square cutout of last year’s Find X9 series with a consistent triple 50MP camera system.

Also, the Find X9s Pro has its own Special Camera Kit. The Find X9s doesn’t have one.

Moreover, the Find X9s Pro rocks MediaTek’s flagship-level Dimensity 9500. While the Find X9s has the slightly-underpowered Dimensity 9500s chipset.

While both phones support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 ROM protocols, configurations are different. The Find X9s Pro has choices between 12 or 16GB of memory and up to 1TB of storage. However, the Find X9s only has a lone 12GB memory with limited storage options between 256 or 512GB of storage.

Surprisingly, the Find X9s Pro has the smaller 6.32-inch AMOLED display whereas the X9s boasts a bigger screen at 6.59 inches. These are both a departure from the 6.78-inch Find X9 Pro and 6.59-inch Find X9.

The only thing these models both share are the 7025mAh Si/C battery and 80W wired SUPERVOOC speeds. Unfortunately, only the X9s Pro supports 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging that the base X9s lacks.

Ultimately, the Find X9 Ultra and X9s series all possess triple IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for utmost durability.

The vivo V60 is a rebadged vivo S30 for international markets

The first V-series phone with periscope telephoto lens

vivo is just on time with its biannual refresh of the V-series.

After the V50 launched last February 2025, the Chinese company has just revealed the newest vivo V60 in India six months after.

Rebadged vivo S30

If you’ve been following vivo for quite some time, you won’t be surprised that the China-exclusive vivo S30 will be the next V-smartphone in their global roster.

For the most part, it is a rebadged vivo S30 for the international market.

vivo V60

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Internals are identical: Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 4nm 8-core SoC, Adreno 722 GPU, up to 16GB LPDDR4X memory and 512GB UFS 2.2 storage.

It may be a good or bad thing but the vivo V60 has an 8+128GB base model whereas the S30 starts with a bigger 12+256GB configuration.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4

Cameras are neither different: 50MP f/1.88 main, 8MP f/2.0 Ultra-Wide Angle (UWA), and 50MP f/2.2 selfie.

However, the vivo V60 now sports an additional 50MP f/2.65 periscope telephoto lens that its predecessor lacks. It’s also the same shooter found on the flagship-grade vivo X200.

vivo V60

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

This newly-added camera is based on Sony’s widely-used IMX882 sensor and supports OIS (Optical Image Stabilization).

It can take 3x optically zoomed photos, and clear 10x shots through Stage Portrait Mode.

vivo V60

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

50x zoomed shots is also possible via vivo’s all-new AI Hyper Zoom.

vivo’s signature ring flash dubbed “Aura Light Portrait 2.0” is here to stay.

vivo V60

A 6500mAh Si/C BlueVolt battery is also here alongside vivo’s speedy 90W FlashCharge standard.

Wireless charging is still absent but reversed wired charging is present for those who need it.

Dual IP68+IP69 water and dust resistance ratings also remain.

Not a total clone

The vivo V60 is not a total clone of the S30 as there are some differences that may or may not matter to most of you.

The vivo V60 has a slightly bigger 6.77-inch 120Hz AMOLED display but only with a Full HD+ resolution and pixel density of 388ppi.

vivo V60

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

The Chinese vivo S30 has a smaller 6.67-inch screen of the same tech, but with more resolution at 1.2K and tighter 460ppi.

As expected, the Chinese model runs OriginOS 5 while the latter still runs Funtouch OS 15 that are both based on Android 15 — shutting the rumor that vivo Global will adopt their Chinese OS in the new V-phone.

That also means vivo’s already rich AI prowess are ever-present with improvements in AI Erase and Image Expander as well as highlighting newly-added AI capabilities such as AI Magic Move, AI Photography Suite, and even AI Four-Season Portrait.

vivo V60

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

As expected, the vivo V60 still rocks the ZEISS Camera System that its Chinese counterparts never had since the S18 Pro (Chinese version of the V30 Pro).

Indian vivo V60s are also expected to have an exclusive Wedding vLog and Portrait Studio presets.

vivo V60 India

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Lastly, the vivo V60 has executed premium finishes and colorways: Auspicious Gold, Moonlit Blue, and Mist Gray.

That’s in contrast to S30’s pastel slash two-tone options derived from the S30 Pro mini (or X200 FE).

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Although the gold and blue options have glass backs, the gray one is made from plastic.

That also makes up for its varying thickness: 7.53mm (gray), 7.65mm (gold), 7.75mm (blue).

All in all, the vivo V60 is slightly thicker over the S30 (7.49mm).

Pricing and Availability

Although there’s no “V60 Pro mini” (nor a V60 Pro), the X200 FE already exists as the global version of China’s vivo S30 Pro mini.

And unlike the vivo X200 FE where it was launched first in Malaysia and Taiwan, the vivo V60 headlines the global launch in India.

Here are India’s specific pricing per configuration:

  • 8+128GB = INR 36,999
  • 8+256GB = INR 38,999
  • 12+256GB = INR 40,999
  • 12+512GB = INR 45,999

It will just be a matter of time which markets the vivo V60 will come right after India.

vivo V60 Malaysia

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

It’s good to note though that vivo Malaysia already teases the V60 up on their website with two different colorways opposed to the Indian options: Berry Purple and Summer Blue.

HONOR Magic V5 beats the OPPO Find N5 as the world’s slimmest foldable

Also has the biggest battery in any foldable

Published

on

By

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Some of you already had an early glimpse of the newest Magic V5 — especially with how HONOR had heavily teased everything about its shiny new foldable.

Wait no further as it’s finally official! And the real deal is hitting the shelves now — at least in China.

Impressively and impossibly thin

For four full months, the OPPO Find N5 held the “thinnest foldable” title with its already thin 8.9mm chassis.

However, the newest foldable contender has entered the stage.

The HONOR Magic V5 has successfully managed to beat it by a mere difference of 0.1mm.

At 8.8mm when fully-folded, the Magic V5 is now the world’s slimmest foldable.

The catch is, you need to buy the Warm White (or Ivory White) version as the other colorways are a tad thicker at 9.0mm.

For the record, HONOR consecutively wore the crown for two years with both the Magic V2 and Magic V3 as the record-breakers (9.9mm, 9.2mm respectively) — and it looks like HONOR isn’t going to let the streak break this 2025.

Though the HONOR Magic V5 and the very recent vivo X Fold5 now share the same sash as the world’s lightest foldable at 217 grams.

UPDATE #1: Both of them have been dethroned by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 with its 215 grams lightness — making it the new world’s lightest foldable of 2025.

That’s again, only reserved for the white model as other colors weigh five grams more at 222 grams.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

HONOR has managed to achieve such impressive feat in engineering thanks to its precisely-manufactured thin components — all below the 1mm mark.

Instead of glass, its back cover is made from HONOR’s 2nd-gen Aerospace ultra-fine woven special fiber that’s said to be lighter than paper yet stronger than steel.

Folding strength is also made durable thanks to HONOR’s Luban shock-absorbing hinge that can withstand up to 500,000 folds.

Inside it lies a reinforced carbon fiber lining plate that serves as a “soft armor” and avoids deformation over long periods of time.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

With those in mind, the HONOR Magic V5 also has dual IP58 and IP59 water and dust-resistance ratings.

Biggest battery champ

The HONOR Magic V5 has decided to hit two birds in one stone.

Aside from being the slimmest fold, it also has the biggest battery capacity in any foldable at 6100mAh, beating the vivo X Fold5 by 100mAh more.

Another catch? You can only enjoy this if you get the highest 16+1TB class. The other two configurations are equipped with a smaller 5820mAh battery.

Admittedly, that’s still bigger compared to its closest OPPO counterpart with a 5600mAh capacity.

But, battery capacity is just one thing. Battery efficiency is for another story.

That large battery is paired by HONOR’s E2 chip alongside its new AI-powered “Dujiangyan” power management system. This enables smart and efficient foldable usage even when using the inner screen for hours.

If that promised 7-hour screen on-time isn’t enough, the Magic V5 supports 67W wired SuperCharge + 50W wireless SuperCharge standards.

Being equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 3nm Soc (instead of X Fold5’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) means better battery endurance in the long run.

This puts more advantage to the HONOR Magic V5 knowing how efficient the latest Snapdragon chip performs.

Full-on flagship fold

Aside from its flagship chipset, the HONOR Magic V5 is pretty much the definition of a “flagship fold” in all aspects.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

It has a 6.43-inch outer plus 7.95-inch inner LTPO 8T OLED displays.

Both boast 120Hz refresh rate, 5000 nits of HDR peak brightness, and 4320Hz PWM Dimming for eye comfort.

There’s even 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, support for 1.07 Billion Colors, as well as Dolby Vision for HDR content.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

BTW, that front screen is protected by a new generation of King Kong Rhinoceros Glass that’s 10 times stronger in drops and 15 times more scratch-resistant.

HONOR also has an industry-first AI feature that can sense debris on the screen bigger than 0.8mm. It will then notify you and remind you to clean your screen.

HONOR has also managed to put in a 64MP f/2.5 periscope telephoto module based on a 1/2-inch image sensor that’s capable of shooting 3x optical zoomed photos and up to 100x digitally with HONOR’s AI Super Zoom trickery.

Alongisde that special zoom unit are the 50MP f/1.6 wide (main) plus another 50MP f/2.0 UWA (Ultra-Wide Angle) cameras with Laser Focus plus a color temperature sensor for utmost image accuracy.

Front cameras on front and inside are 20MP f/2.2 shooters.

The HONOR Magic V5 runs MagicOS 9 based on Android 15 with better multitasking and AI-rich features.

It works hand in hand with HONOR’s YOYO AI Assistant and DeepSeek integration.

The HONOR Magic V5 supports seamless interconnectivity alongside various device ecosystem including Android, Windows, HUAWEI’s HarmonyOS. Heck, even Apple’s iPhone / iOS and macOS-enabled MacBooks and iMacs.

Graphics by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

The Chinese version of the HONOR Magic V5 is also global-ready. GMS (Google Mobile Services) support can be enabled. It also has 5G bands that are recognizable outside the Mainland.

In line with that, China’s Beidou satellite communication is also supported in this foldable as well.

Pricing and Availability

The HONOR Magic V5 comes in four premium shades: Warm White, Dawn Gold, Velvet Black, and Silk Road Dunhuang.

GIF by Vincenz Lee | GadgetMatch

Pricing and configuration in China are as follows:

  • 12+256GB = CNY 8999 (US$ 1260 / EUR 1070 / GBP 920 / SG$ 600 / PhP 70,905 / INR 107,700)
  • 16+512GB = CNY 9999 (US$ 1395 / EUR 1190 / GBP 1020 / SG$ 1780 / PhP 78,785 / INR 119,745)
  • 16+1TB = CNY 10,999 (US$ 1535 / EUR 1310 / GBP 1120 / SG$ 1960 / PhP 86,665 / INR 131, 730)

           * Price conversions are only rough estimations.

Instead of charging CNY 1399, HONOR guarantees FREE inner screen replacement for one year upon purchase. Something to keep in mind for international foldables.

Speaking of, global availability has yet to be announced. Albeit, HONOR Global already has a teaser microsite for the Magic V5. Not much has been included though except for the foreign “Ivory White” and “Reddish Brown” color names.

We just have to patiently wait and see when it’s going to be announced for international markets.

UPDATE #2: The HONOR Magic V5 was just launched in Malaysia for MYR 6999 in a single 16+512GB configuration.

It’s also available in Singapore for SG$ 2199.
