eSIMS: Physical to digital

For those who are curious, an eSIM s a digital SIM which replaces a physical SIM, eliminating the hassles of having to switch from one SIM to another, finding your SIM ejector pin, or purchasing local SIM cards for foreign tourists.

These eSIMS are way smaller than nano-sized SIM cards and are chips that are embedded inside phones that support such technology.

Although eSIMS have been traced to as early as the 1990s, it was only until the late 2010s where telcos have developed it further to take advantage of its benefits.

By launching its eSIM option, Smart becomes the first network provider in the Philippines to introduce this option.
