The Porsche Design Acer Book RS looks super luxurious

What. A. Stunner.

Porsche Design Acer Book

What happens when a luxury car maker teams up with a world-class laptop maker? Magic. Although, that might be underselling the level of thought that went into the Porsche Design Acer Book RS.

Let’s start with what we immediately see. The Porsche Design Acer Book RSis built with a compact all-metal chassis. Topping it off is a carbon fiber cover. It’s a distinct touch derived from decades of motorsports designs. It puts a premium on the material’s lightweight strength and extreme performance.

The entire unit weighs only 1.25 kg (2.76 lbs) and is 15.99 mm (0.63 in) thin. The two covers are connected by a unibody hinge that slightly elevates the keyboard upon opening the notebook. That improves cooling and creates a more ergonomic typing experience.

Backlit keys provide convenient typing even at night and the glass precision touchpad provides multi-gesture support.

Under the hood

Great machines don’t only look good, they should also come with top-caliber performance. Under the hood of the Porsche Design Acer Book RS are the following:

  • Latest 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors with Intel Iris X graphics
  • Optional discrete NVIDIA GeForce MX350 GPUs
  • 16GB of RAM

Naturally, it doesn’t end there. It has a 14-inch FHD IPS touchscreen covered with a layer of Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass. This magnificent looking laptop covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut and is accentuated by ultra-narrow bezels — 90% screen-to-body ratio to be exact.

It has dual copper heat pipes to stay cool during the entire 17 hours that it’s supposed to last. It can give you up to four hours of usage time even after juicing up for only 30 minutes.

Rounding up the capabilities are a dual-band WiFI 6, USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, and USB3.2 Gen 2 ports. You also get smart features like fingerprint logins via Windows Hello, Modern Standby and Wake on Voice.

Custom designed accessories

The laptop isn’t the only thing on the Acer Notebook RS that’s infused with Porsche Design. Coming along for the ride is the Porsche Design Acer Travelpack RS consisting of the following: mousepad, mouse, carrying pouch and notebook sleeve).

The travel pouch is made from ECCO PALERMO XA Leather — a durable material that is pleasant to the touch and glistens with a subtle shine.

Magnetic clasps connect the pouch to a notebook sleeve. It has been fashioned from 1680D fabric which is water repellant and perfect for protecting the notebook from the scratches and wear-and-tear.The notebook sleeve’s detachable lid has been designed to double as a mousepad.

The Bluetooth and wireless Porsche Design Acer Mouse RS completes the travel pack. Carbon fiber was used to reinforce the left-mouse button with character, and is also utilized for the mouse’s bottom cover.

The strong material ensures the mouse has a long lifespan and also houses a DPI switch that enables users to quickly switch between three preset sensitivity levels.

Huawei Matebook 16s: Bigger, better, brighter

For a bolder you

Huawei MateBook 16s

Watch the video.

Bigger isn’t always better. But Huawei begs to differ.

After seeing some success with their MateBook D15 laptop, the company decided to up the ante in literally every category imaginable.

This is the Huawei MateBook 16s. As the name suggests, it is a big boy. But it’s more than just a bigger MateBook. Huawei also made sure to up the specs for better overall performance. All while also adding some smart features, making it a bright work companion.

Let’s break down how this bigger, better, and brighter laptop is great for a bolder you.

First and clearly most noticeable is the 16-inch display. It’s touchscreen and also has a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. That’s sexy.

You’re also getting a 3 by 2 screen aspect ratio which is great if you’re pulling windows side-by-side for multitasking. Lastly, it makes sure your eyes are protected with a TUV Rheinland certification for both Blue Light and Flicker.

It’s also designed with creatives in mind. The screen’s color accuracy is professional-grade. So, for creative work like touching up images, video editing, and anything of the sort, you can rest easy knowing the display is showing the right colors.

After work, you can kick-back, relax and watch videos comfortably. The big screen is great for binge-watching Netflix series or just getting lost in a YouTube blackhole. The speakers on the side help make the viewing experience even more pleasant and immersive.

The Matebook 16s maintains the unibody design. It looks sleek and sturdy despite the larger body. And the larger body also lends to a more comfortable full-sized keyboard. The keys have a satisfying travel and are spaced just right. You also get a large glass touchpad, making navigation an absolute breeze.

The bigger body also means more ports. On the right side, you’ll find  two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. And on the left side, you get two USB-C ports, one of which is thunderbolt 4. Alongside it are the HDMI port and 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack.

This 16-inch notebook is also better in so many ways.

The camera is placed where you would usually find it. And the camera itself is in 1080P and also wide angle. Even more impressive, it’s an AI camera with built-in video effects. FollowCam and Eye Contact work in tandem to make sure you’re always in the center of the frame and that the line of sight adjusts to you.

And then there’s Virtual Background which lets you select the background you want to use in any video calling platform.

But of course, the meat of being better comes in the specs department. The Matebook 16s is available in Core i5, i7, and i9 processor variants. All of which are Intel EVO certified which means you can expect a heavy-hitting performer.

And you’ll definitely need all that power if you work with plenty of image or video assets. Same is true if you use other software that requires heavy duty performance. Whatever the case, the Matebook 16s is equipped to handle it all. And for an extended period too.

To ensure things stay cool when the workload gets heated, Huawei implemented a gaming-grade size dual shark fin fan for quiet cooling. This helps heat dissipation so the laptop can perform at its best. All while being quiet while it’s at it.

But you know what’s surprising? A laptop this big actually has a smaller power adapter. Normally, big boys like this also have huge power bricks. But not the Matebook 16s.

It has this instead: Don’t let the size fool you, though. The highest version supports the 135W power adapter which juices up the laptop up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

It’s the Huawei SuperCharge but for a laptop. We love to see it.

Now, what sets the Matebook 16s apart from other laptops is its array of Smart features.

This notebook is part of Huawei’s whole Super Device initiative. Super Device means different Huawei devices working in tandem for a more seamless workflow for the user. We have an entire video detailing this that you can check out after watching this one.

But essentially, with this laptop, you can hook up your Huawei phone and tablet. Once connected, you gain easy access to the files and apps on said devices. And you can even launch a phone interface alongside your other apps. This means you don’t have to lift your phone just to check on it. You can work on everything straight from the laptop.

While we have you here, we’d also like to mention the sibling of the 16s — the Huawei Matebook D16. Specifically, the D16’s Metaline Antenna located right around the top-right side just above the keyboard.

What it does is it ensures the laptop gets the fastest connection possible, giving you an advantage no matter what network you’re connected to.

Another thing present on these Huawei laptops is the Huawei Mobile App Engine. What it does is kind of merge the worlds of Huawei PCs and smartphones.

A bolder you

Now, take all of the benefits we mentioned, and imagine yourself using the MateBook 16s. Can you see it now?

Enjoying the big screen and all its color accuracy benefits to help you with work. Opening phone apps without actually having to reach for your phone. Not needing a dongle for extra connectivity. And just kicking back and relaxing with it at the end of the day.

The Matebook 16s is a hard and smart worker’s dream. It’s a complete package that’s bigger, better, and brighter than matebooks have ever been.

And that definitely will make for a more confident and bolder you.

Lenovo Legion 5i Pro review: A “pro” in professional gaming

Engineered for success from inside and out

When it comes to a great selection of gaming laptops, no one does it quite like the Legion brand. Lenovo’s dedicated gaming brand produces some of the best in the market for a variety of gamers out there. Whether you’re the brash, highly competitive type or the more subtle one of the group, there’s a perfect one for you.

For 2022, Lenovo’s latest take on a “professional” gaming laptop comes in the form of the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro. Like its predecessors, it’s not the flashiest nor the most color-laden model, yet it boasts the same raw power and performance any gamer needs. Of course, the “Pro” in the model also includes features for an extraordinary young professional on a daily grind.

Is this the all-around option a professional like yourself could be looking for?

An unassuming form factor

Upon first glance, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro has a subtle aura to it, mostly due to its Space Gray finish. As part of the Legion Pro series, it passes off as any work laptop working professionals use in the office. Now, one of the key differences is that this laptop is on the bulkier side of things.

While it is a portable gaming device at its core, it’s quite heavy to bring around on a day-to-day basis. It will fit most laptop bags or backpacks you bring it in, but you will feel a bit of its 2.49kg worth of heft mostly due to the components it has inside. Although, it’s worth it considering what the device rocks with (more on that later).

In terms of overall design and port selection, the Legion 5i Pro doesn’t fall short on the essentials. From the available USB-A ports to the Ethernet jack and Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, this laptop can fully support a wide variety of peripherals at your disposal. Plus, most of the ports are placed at the back, so no cables get in the way when you’re playing.

Delivers incredible performance for the everyday 9-5

Like every other gaming laptop out there, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro packs a punch in the performance department for everything you throw at it. With a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU and 32GB of RAM, this machine is as versatile as advertised. For most work-related tasks like creating presentations and creative tasks, the Legion 5i Pro excels at these with ease.

Another facet of the Legion 5i Pro that delivers as advertised is its 16:10, 165Hz refresh rate IPS display. At 500 nits peak brightness, the display provides great color accuracy and doesn’t wash out any deep blacks when watching dark videos. Of course, the high refresh rate makes animations run smoother, which is perfect for both gaming and entertainment.

Gaming worth doing after work hours

Speaking of gaming performance, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro boasts something great with a minor setback in between. First off, the NVIDIA RTX 3060 inside the device handles most games well at relatively high settings. Not only will you enjoy high frame rates, but you will also have the benefit of playing in great detail.

Secondly, if you do decide to turn down graphics settings, the Legion 5i Pro gives you high enough frames to compete at the highest level possible. Of course, this is further supplemented with the 165Hz refresh rate display allowing you to see elements a bit faster. For graphically-heavy games, the RTX 3060 handles these well enough to give you around 60-80 frames per second (FPS).

However, for games that support ray tracing, the RTX 3060 barely scrapes by even with the increased quality in detail. Frame rates for ray-tracing supported games hardly reached 30 FPS and were slow to respond with keyboard inputs, at times. Although, if you only play game modes that don’t demand too much from the GPU, you will appreciate the intricacy in the details and reflections.

It’s a bit too warm in some cases

At this point, no device is safe from the heat when the competition gets intense. As such, Lenovo’s Coldfront 4.0 cooling system kicks into high gear to keep the device as cool as it could be. The thing though, however, is that this isn’t particularly the case with the Legion 5i Pro.

In most cases, the device didn’t feel incredibly hot to near boiling point compared to other devices. However, after about an hour or so of playing games at decent frame rates, it felt uncomfortably warm near the WASD keys even while playing on a desk. Imagine playing games on your actual lap for one hour!

Not the longest lasting machine

This ties in pretty well with the laptop’s battery life when you’re doing all sorts of things. When used for most day-to-day tasks and casual gaming, the Legion 5i Pro lasts for around 10-12 hours before reaching for the charger. If you switch it up to only play games and at decent frame rates, it only lasts for one to two hours at best.

Charging the device, however, doesn’t take too long especially when you want to get back into the thick of things. With Fast Charge enabled, the Legion 5i Pro goes from 0 to 100 in an hour while idle. When you’re using the device while charging, it takes about an hour and 45 minutes, which isn’t too bad.

Is this your GadgetMatch?

Starting at PhP 119,995, the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is a subtle powerhouse for any type of gamer or professional out there. The hardware inside boasts great power to bolster any task you throw at it, whether it’s for productivity or gaming. Also, if you’re not into flashy designs, this laptop is a perfect fit.

Of course, not every gaming laptop built in this world is perfect. From the heat to the short battery life, these are the sacrifices you’ll deal with for a device as professional-looking as this. Although, Lenovo ensures users that these wouldn’t get in the way too much when you buckle down and get to work.

The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is one versatile gaming device, and a worthy option for anyone looking for a more all-around device to bring around. Whether you’re on that 9-5 work day or that after hour gaming stream, this definitely has the potential to give you what you need, and then some.
