Snapdragon 865 Plus might be launched in July
Will come with remaining flagships in 2020
The Snapdragon 865 has powered the flagship market for a while. Besides providing maximum processing power, the chipset further popularized 5G compatibility in today’s phones. It was a big step when it launched late last year. However, all eyes are now on the next step.
Earlier this month, a leak revealed the potential processor in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series: the Snapdragon 865 Plus. It’s a notable spec, especially since the chipset model hasn’t launched yet. If the leak is true, the processor will surely launch before or during the Note 20 series launch.
However, a leak from the same source pushes this even earlier. According to Ice Universe’s Weibo account, the Snapdragon 865 Plus will launch in July, which could happen as early as next week. Further, the chipset will power the remaining flagships this year.
This shouldn’t be a huge surprise. Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 855 Plus in mid-July last year. When that particular model launched, it was a minor update to the Snapdragon 855.
However, there’s still much to be excited for when the Snapdragon 865 Plus launches. Currently, the year is expected to reveal a few heavy hitters in the coming months, including the Galaxy Note 20 series and the ROG Phone 3 (which can still sport the processor, despite rumors). Though we don’t know about the processor’s capabilities yet, the upcoming slate of smartphones are promising.
