VLC blacklists Huawei phones, Find X does the bend test: Weekend Rewind

A lot of ups and downs this week!

Here are this week’s top stories on GadgetMatch.

1. OPPO Find X fails durability test

On the flip side, OPPO’s flagship phone Find X went through the JerryRigEverything durability test and came out, well, broken. While it was able to withstand a razor blade and light flame, it’s when the bend test starts that things went south. You have to see the video.

2. Xiaomi’s best Android One phone yet?

Xiaomi released two new Android One phones in Madrid — the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. They boast affordable prices, solid midrange specs, and pure Android goodness!

3. ASUS fined for anti-competition

ASUS, along with three other companies, face EUR 111 million in fines due to online price fixing. Throughout the past decade, all four companies prevented online retailers from setting their own prices to the former’s products.

4. Samsung one-ups Gorilla Glass 6

According to Samsung, they’re in the process of developing a screen that will attempt to be more durable than Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6. The screen is said to withstand 26 drops from four feet and can survive a towering drop from six feet with no damage.

This will be interesting since either way, consumers will benefit from this competition of toughness.

5. No more VLC for some Huawei phones

Huawei phones are indeed great — both in speed and battery life. But it turns out Huawei’s battery optimization is too aggressive with background apps, and the developers of VLC are not happy about how it affects their product.

Their decision? Blacklist Huawei’s top-selling smartphones.

Weekend Rewind is our roundup of top news and features you might have missed for the week. We know the world of technology can be overwhelming and not everyone has the time to get up to speed with everything — and that includes us. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the rewind.
