President Donald Trump is trying to save the dying ZTE

We didn’t see that coming

Recently, we reported on the impending death of Chinese tech maker ZTE. Now, the collapsing brand is getting a deus ex machina save from the unlikeliest of sources — US President Donald Trump himself.

Since last year, ZTE’s woes originated from their violations of US trade policies with Iran. Despite a clear ban, the company was caught trading with the country, and the US government sanctioned ZTE. However, the company failed to comply with the sanctions as well. The US had no choice but to impose heavier punishments including a nationwide ban on business to and from ZTE.

Unsurprisingly, the Twitter-happy Trump had much to say on his favorite social media platform. And yet, his tweet on the matter at hand brought a shocking twist.

Instead of praising his government’s sanctions, Trump declared that he was in talks with President of China Xi Jinping to restore ZTE’s status in the US. Strangely, this runs counter to his previous tweets decrying China’s unfair trade practices.

The tweet further explains that the ZTE ban cost a lot of jobs in China. Finally, Trump concludes the tweet by basically ordering his commerce department to resolve the matter.

Experts and other government officials have complained that Trump’s latest statement focuses more on the welfare of the Chinese, rather than of his own people. Besides their blatant violations of US policy, ZTE has also brought on the ire of national security pundits worried about the company’s allegiances.

Regardless of his actual intentions, Trump’s actions present a miraculous opportunity for the brand.

Also, the save will likely affect other companies as well. Before the ban, ZTE enjoyed a spot as one of the world’s biggest phone makers. As such, they provide valuable business for tech companies like Qualcomm and even Google. Without ZTE, these companies have to fill the vacuum on their sales bracket.

Is ZTE dead? It’s all up to Donald Trump.

The iPhone 18 might sell out for an unexpected reason

The ongoing shortage might play a part in the phone selling out earlier than expected.

Published

An iPhone selling out is not news. Because of how popular the phones are, it’s within the realm of probability that Apple runs out of stock at some point. According to a new report, this year won’t be any different… but it’s for an entirely different reason.

First reported by analyst Tim Culpan, Apple is reportedly struggling to meet its demand for semiconductors for the iPhone 18 and the foldable iPhone. The ongoing memory shortage is cutting off Apple’s ability to deliver the required supply of smartphones in a timely fashion. The report even claims that TSMC, which helps produce the iPhone, is sitting on a shipment of processors, worth US$ 1 billion, that don’t have memory chips.

Now, Apple is still confident that it can weather the launch. However, if the shortage persists, the iPhone 18 generation will likely sell out much more quickly than expected.

It’s an interesting time for Apple to experience such a shortage. It’s been heavily rumored that the company will launch its very first foldable phone next month, creating a new market for the brand. Apple definitely wants this attempt to succeed after the tepid response to its last new product, the Vision Pro.
