HONOR announces Magic V2 RSR, Magic6 series
European, global availability to follow
HONOR has announced the Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR in Shanghai, China. Availability for European markets will follow on January 26.
The brand has also unveiled the HONOR Magic6 series. It’s the latest iterations to the Magic line of smartphones. These pack a series of breakthroughs in design, display, photography, and performance.
Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR
The HONOR Magic V2 RSR features a bold Agate Grey design. It’s inspired by motorsports, as it is done in collaboration with Porsche Design. They are the designer arm of the sports car manufacturing giant that focuses on luxury accessories.
The Porsche 911 is well-represented by the ultra-thin foldable smartphone’s aesthetics. The flyline of its backside reminiscent the sports car’s hood.
HONOR also worked on improving its overall durability. The foldable has an anti-scratch NanoCrystal Shield incorporated and a hardness rating of over seven on the Mohs scale.
In terms of performance, the Magic V2 RSR is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It houses a 5,000mAh battery that supports 66W wired SuperCharge. It also has an impressive RAM capacity of 16GB and 1TB of internal storage.
The device comes with a foldable 7.92-inch OLED LTPO display with Dynamic Dimming and a 6.43-inch external screen, which both have virtually the same resolution and up to a 120Hz refresh rate.
For its camera setup, the foldable has a 50MP f/1.9 main, 20MP f/2.4 telephoto, and a 50MP f/2.0 ultra-wide with the first two lenses supporting OIS. Both rear and front cameras are also capable of shooting 4K videos.
HONOR Magic6 series: DSLR-level photography
Along with the motorsports-inspired Magic V2 RSR, HONOR has likewise unveiled the HONOR Magic6 Pro and HONOR Magic6, the latest phones under the Magic lineup.
The Magic6 Pro powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform and an enhanced 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports both 80W wired and 66W wireless SuperCharge.
The Magic6 Pro features the first 180MP telephoto camera that has a 1/1.49-inch sensor and an aperture of f/2.6 for flawless details from distance. This is aided by an upgraded DSLR-level HONOR Falcon Camera system equipped with a 1/1.3-inch customized HDR sensor.
In front is a 6.8-inch LTPO quad-curved floating display with up to 5,000nits of peak brightness and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Price, availability, global launch
The Porsche Design HONOR Magic V2 RSR is available in China for CN¥ 15,999. The HONOR Magic6 starts at CN¥ 4,399, while the Magic6 Pro starts at CN¥ 5,699.
The Magic V2 RSR will be launched in Europe on January 26 in Leipzig, Germany, while the Magic6 series will be made available globally next month at the MWC 2024.

Apple is working on AirPods with built-in cameras
References to the wearable were spotted inside a new macOS beta.
The launch of operating system betas is a cause of celebration for those digging into what’s next for a brand. No other company does that better than Apple. Today, Apple released a new release candidate for macOS Tahoe 26.7. As expected, the release has a treasure trove of references to unreleased devices, including a new type of AirPods with built-in cameras.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. The references include a slew of unreleased iPads, Macs, and HomePods. Since these devices are already expected to come out, they’re hardly worth nothing. This includes the iPhone 18 series. If anything, the references confirm the iPhone Ultra, the rumored entry into the foldable market, but that’s it.
Now, the more interesting inclusion is a pair of AirPods with cameras. Despite the controversies surrounding cameras on smart glasses, Apple is reportedly building audio-based wearables with cameras themselves.
In a short demo video (also obtained from the macOS beta via MacRumors), the AirPods can apparently “save” things that it sees, including a book you might want to search for later. In that way, the built-in camera acts more like a voice assistant, rather than a recording device.
Though the references don’t confirm a launch date, it’s likely that the camera-based AirPods will come out sometime soon. After all, why would a blatant reference be inside a publicly available beta?

Samsung might be working on an even wider foldable
The success of the Galaxy Z Fold8 is pushing Samsung to its next steps.
The passport-sized Galaxy Z Fold8 might be one of the best ideas for a foldable ever. Hardly anyone thinks that Samsung’s latest foldable type was a misstep for the brand. Other companies are even rumored to bring out their own passport-sized foldable soon. Now, Samsung is reportedly going further in the same direction by working on an even wider foldable.
Compared to traditional book-style foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold8 has a more squarish shape when folded. Naturally, the phone’s unfolded state is more rectangular, allowing for more screen real estate for full-screen content. It feels much more immersive to watch movies and shows on the foldable.
Now, according to ETNews, Samsung is working on an even wider foldable, potentially for next year. Though sparse on more technical details, the report hints that the next iteration will focus on better video playback, which does indicate a better aspect ratio.
Though foldables have been under the spotlight for a while now, this year might be the moment that the segment reaches its maturity. A lot of brands today have worthy alternatives for foldables. Some are also working on passport-style ones. Apple, the last holdout among the big names of the industry, is rumored to launch its first foldable later this year. There is no better time to try a foldable than this year.
