While we’re all stuck at home due to a global pandemic, the appeal of having a work companion notebook that we can effortlessly carry anywhere hasn’t staled. In that regard, Huawei is bringing to us the Huawei MateBook X — a light but powerful notebook that addresses all our laptop needs.

Light as a feather

Okay, that’s obviously an exaggeration but at 1kg, this notebook will sure feel lighter than any notebook you’ve lugged around with you. It’s also pretty think with the thickest part measuring at 13.6mm.

If you’re worried about something so thin being vulnerable, fret not. Huawei built this with a lightweight magnesium aluminum unibody through a CNC cutting process. It only means you shouldn’t worry too much about its durability.

Rounding up the physical aesthetic is smooth finish on the surface that’s available in four colors: Silver Frost, Forest Green, Interstellar Blue and Sakura Pink.

Sexy FullView display

Huawei’s MateBook’s have done a good job of being nearly bezel-less and the FullView display on the MateBook X is no exception. It has a 90 percent screen-to-body ratio that truly brings that modern vibe on notebooks. It’s also great for viewing movies and other videos.

The 13-inch screen support 3K resolution and should be able to deliver great detail and accurate colors. It has a 3:2 aspect ratio that Huawei says is great for displaying more content.

It’s also a touch-screen display with features that encourage you to actually use it as such. There’s the Fingers Gesture Screenshot which lets you take a screenshot by swiping downwards on the screen with three fingers.

The MateBook X also has Huawei share that enables the Multi-screen collaboration feature. This lets you sync and control your Huawei phone from the notebook.

Powerful inside

The MateBook X’s tiny frame is home to some of the best internals on a notebook. It features a 10th gen Intel core i5 chip, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of SSD storage. It also has support for Wi-Fi 6 for faster connectivity.

Its 42W rated capacity battery should last for up to 9 hours in typical productivity situations. It comes with a portable 65W adapter. It’s connected via a USB-C type port which means you can also use it to charge your smartphone.

Huawei says it also has an improved trackpad experience. It’s the first Huawei notebook to use the Huawei Free touch tech. It supports full haptic feedback. The Huawei Share also sits underneath the trackpad. Lastly, it has a full-size keyboard that offers 1.3mm of key travel. It’s also illuminated for use in the dark.

Rounding up the features are the Fingerprint Power Button which is a staple in the MateBook X line. It also still has the recessed camera so you can be sure it’s tucked in and won’t be recording without you knowing. Ports are standard for a notebook this size: 3.5mm headphone port, and one USB-C port for charging and data transfer.

The Huawei MateBook X  will be available starting October 2020. Pricing are as follows:
